This is going to work really well in our music, alongside my MicroGranny, it’s heaven sent in fact

Just be aware that photos and copies of the description text for this device have been used to build a scam site offering it for $29 (IIRC). Only use the proper Chompi Club web site.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

Yeah I've seen a few scam ads for this on the usual InstaTubes (anti)social media... all reported of course.

The little board (daisy seed) around which this is based looks fascinating. It's around usd27 and provides all the capabilities you'd want to build some very nice little synths although the output DACs are only 12 bit.
I'll check if the shipping to the UK is the usual silly rate though (why *does* it cost so much when I can get stuff from China with free postage)
Edit: there's a Bristol distributor selling them for £33.50 plus (ouch!) £7.99 delivery. Hmmm.

Sounds interesting, but my DIY skills are very limited.
I’m still blown away by this, I can see me using it a lot, everything about it I want to do, there’s nothing there I won’t use, USB C Midi too.

If I ever did a live Synthi gig I would have one of these Chompi. Also a couple of Critter & Guitari alongside Soma Enner, Soma Tera. A few FX boxes. That's aboot it.
I would also have buckets of Chomp bars at the entrance to hand ooot lol.

I don't know why but something about the design rubs me up the wrong way. Maybe I'll look again later when I've settled my nerves.

I agree, it’s very "toy-ish" even more so than the OP-1
It doesn’t need to pander to a market, it’s fine as a product.
But, I don’t care, this is going to be like my MicroGranny with a Monotron Delay inside on steroids.

I was very interested in this when it was initially announced until I saw the price and the feature set. Considering the price of the Daisy Seed it uses (and the likelihood there will be supply issues with that) I absolutely lost any interest in it. I've built a couple of Teensy 4.1 based synthesizer projects (very similar device to the Daisy Seed) and the price of the Chompi is just shocking, I built a portable groovebox with sampling capabilities and a full touchscreen display for $100 including having the boards and a 3d-printed case made. Totally different intent with far more capabilities, sure, but it begs the question as to where the other several hundred dollars are going for something that appears to use off-the-shelf parts like computer keycaps.

On the other hand, the upcoming Kiviak Instruments Wofi is definitely on my radar and they are aiming for a similar $600 price to the Chompi with a far more capable instrument.

Superb like the 1010 Music gear.

That does look fun and hopefully capable.
For now my ipad suffices for me. Sample mangling is my favourite aspect of Electronic music because of what Yello, Art of Noise, JmJarre did.

The Kiviak looks good, and yes, the Chompi seems massively over-priced in comparison.
Remember the Yamaha VSS30? we need one of those, brought up to date, at a reasonable price, not a kids lunch box for five hundred quid.
