This is free right now from IK Multimedia: Miroslav Philharmonik 2 CE.

Anyone know if it's any good?

I have the full version, although I've not used it much, but when I have it's fine.

Not sure what they cut out for the free version though, so I couldn't really comment on that version.

Listening to music made by it while I work shows it seems pretty damn good. I mean, it doesn't sound 100% realistic, but I wouldn't have necessarily jumped to it being virtual had I not known before.

It's a very old library, but still has some nice parts to it. If you have no other orchestral libraries and want something to experiment with, at a price of "free" then nothing comes close! :)

You don't have to spend very much to get better, but it really does depend on what sounds you need and what music you're writing. Your skill as an orchestrator is the most important part of realism, I feel.

+1 to sonics' last sentence.

When I did the sound mix for our choir's last online lockdown concert, for the orchestra I just used the standard library in Presonus Notion, which gave acceptable results and I would say that the Miroslav library is a little bit better than that.

It's all about how you use it.
