Doepfer Theramin modules

Post by Arpangel »

I said to a friend of mine recently “I’m going to buy two Doepfer Theremin modules, he said “ why two? they have X/Y outputs” I said “because two look on stage, and two aerials are better than one”
I’m at a dinner party right now, in the toilet topping up on Scotch, escaping, I’d rather be in my damp basement.
It’s not our friends fault, they are sweet, it’s just that I’ve reached the height of self awareness and I’m having rouble getting out of the toilet.

I've moved this into a topic of its own as it wasn't related to the topic in which you posted it Tony. I'm not sure how useful two Theramins would be to anyone with only two hands but one never knows.

Steady on the old scotch ;)

There’s a difference between the two aerial Moog style ones and the single aerial Doepfer, you need two hands on the Moog, one for pitch and one for amplitude but you only need one had for both on the Doepfer, so two can be played at the same time.

The A178 can generate a gate signal output when it detects a hand within range of the aerial. So you can kind of 'play' it one handed... but without any of the finesse and dynamic controllability of the classic two-aerial design.

Doepfer describe using two A178 modules to recreate the classic Theremin, one generating the pitch CV and one for the VCA CV.

It takes years to play a theremin the way I do. There are no shortcuts.

I didn’t know Bob Dylan played Theremin?

:)

I was thinking along those lines too.
