This will be the last track on the Arram Koth album I'm working on.
I think it's ready but would like some opinions/suggestions before putting it to bed.
It's here.
"
The Ethereal Visitors arrive, and to everyone's surprise they are somewhat subdued. They have now visited all life forms in this universe and are leaving. They've been here since its creation and will continue their search in other dimensions. They will always remember the city and its peoples with great fondness.
Just a few starlives later the city decides it must also move on, and closes the gate to this dimension taking all it's denizens with it.
"
P.S.
Still some shuffling needed on the other tracks.
The Last Visit
Re: The Last Visit
A very wistful track Will and the story it tells is really evocative

Thanks Eddy. I actually wrote the text for this one first, then read through all of the ones that are done, and just sat and played the melody and chords. This needed very little editing - mostly mismatched chords .
The visitors 'signature' sound was then patched in at the start and end, and finally two extra incidental lines. I'm not entire sure about the chimes I might change them.

Why ? FLAC things are free arent they ?
Re: The Last Visit
There's a kind of white/pink noise that comes in with every note of the main melody line and it's quite abrupt. I'd be looking to find a way to fade that in slower as I'm finding it quite distracting as it is.

Re: The Last Visit
Very wistful. Very lovely indeed. Quite loud though. I had to turn my amp down about 50% to get it to my usual monitoring level. However - I did notice that the player volume setting was on full, and not its usual half way, so it must have remembered that from that last time I used it. Maybe there's some leveling to do? I didn't notice anything harsh in the attacks - but then my ears have been pummeled by Jim Marshall since 1980.
Nice piece - and stacks up against the others I've heard very well.

Re: The Last Visit
Thanks for your feed back - and Drew's comments noted!
It seems that the sound of that flute is very dependent on quality of speakers/phones... ears!
So what I've done is to change the filtering on the 'breathy' part of the sound. At the same time I' re-balanced the other instrument levels. In particular the chimes are much quieter.
These overwrite the previous ones so just fetching the same entries does the job.
