How to play youtube tunes at constant volume level?

Post by mikehende »

Hey guys, I'm making this inquiry for a bud of mine. He plays music off Youtube from his phone and also Chromebook. He simply connects his phone and Chromebook to his powered speakers but as is norm with different tunes the volume fluctuates.

Is there any App he can purchase for these 2 devices please?

Youtube normalises down but not up. So anything over -14LUFS is brought down to that level but if a recording is at -16.7LUFS (which used to be the iTunes standard - not sure if it still is) it won't be raised so it will sound quieter. Some stuff is much lower than this.
Youtube have released a 'stable volume' option but it doesn't seem to be widely rolled out yet: https://www.androidpolice.com/youtube-s ... e-spotted/

Outside of that I'm not aware of any external apps that would do the job - the app would need to process the youtube file first to establish the integrated loudness in order to balance that with the other tracks.
I think in the meantime you'll need to keep riding the fader.

If this is as backing tracks for live performance then the files could be loaded into a backing track app and triggered from there, you set up the relative volume for each one before the gig.

I've previously used Soundcue on the iPad but a check (couldn't remember the name) reveals that it has disappeared off my iPad and isn't coming back - boo!

Other soundboard apps are available for iOS, Android, Mac and PC but there was nothing wrong with Soundcue.

Note to self - research Apple offloading apps.

Edit - Audio Cues still good on Android, by the look of things.
