Help us decide; Shadow Hill HW second hand vs Space on the Moon & Black Box HG2

Post by Primary perception »

Hi everyone,

We got some money to spend on gear after selling some stuff we didnt use in the studio but we have been hard to make a decision and thats why we would like to know another point of view about it. We had the chance to get a second hand Shadow Hill from 2010 recently revised and serviced for a good price but for that price we can also get two gear that are in our gear list, On The Moon Spacecraft from Mathew Lane and Blackbox HG2 HW. We do mixing, mastering and produce our own music as well.

Looking forward to hear to thoughts and help us to make a decision.

Just to let you know guys, what gear we have, we know that its not a good comparation because are different things.

For compression we have: the API 2500 and the Manley VARI MU, Fatso Jr, Distressor, and de DBX 160XL

And for just saturation we have the Mas from Overstayer.

We have also hardware equalizers for mixing and mastering.

We have also fxs hardware, chorus, delays, Eventide Ultraharmonics...but nothing like the On The Moon Spacecraft (we use the DR MS plugin from Mathew Lane).

Looking forward to your Thoughts.

Thanks

You have a good selection of compression; the API and Manley work well together. However, the SHMC would bring something new IMO. The HG2 likewise, though! I would go with whatever you feel you lack most; compression control or saturation types.

I'm working fully ITB now, so almost all of my experience is from the software versions. Feel free to ignore this input if you like, I won't be offended. :)

Have you considered running the plugins to get a sense of which would be more useful to you?
