Soft synths not working in Cubase

Post by The Paul meister »

Hi everyone,

I'm running the Cubase Elements 13 demo. Yesterday I recorded some midi using the Utopia synth in NI Kontakt 7. Now when I play the keyboard all the volume bars light up, including on the synth window itself, but no sound is coming out. I've tried other soft synths and the same thing is happening so it's not just Kontakt.

Any help appreciated,

Cheers, Paul

Might be worth posting a screenshot that shows the channel routing.

Can you hear audio files?

Maybe something has added itself to 'All MIDI Inputs' that shouldn't have. It happens from time to time.

Press F4 and see if your audio output is configured properly.

Sometimes I start Cubase but have forgotten to turn the audio interface on and Cubase defaults to the generic option. I turn Cubase off, turn the inerface on, interfrace is 'seen' by windows, all is good......nope. I start Cubase and it has 'remembered' the last setup, the generic driver. I go to Studio Manger and for the audio set it to my interface.

Sometimes I have spent 30 mintues rebooting the PC, restarting the interface, restarting Cubase, checking cabling, and then it dawns DOH Cubase is using the default generic driver

Check the AI is set to the same sample rate as the project and that no other program has control of the ASIO driver.

Make sure the instrument output isn't set to send to a group bus that's muted or has its fader turned down.

If you are getting the master fader meters working, then it's definitely something between Cubase and the AI.

Reliably fallible.

Thanks everyone for your replies,

It's OneWorld's advice that has sorted it. I just went into the Studio Setup Window in the Studio menu and changed the driver from Generic low latency driver, back to the Focusrite USB ASIO and now my soft synths are working again.

Thanks OneWorld,

Cheers, Paul

Good news - just for reference, you can see that if you press F4 too, and also whether any audio interface is assigned to Cubase outputs ;)
