It’s been OK with me recently. Still get occasional 504 gateway errors but is not slow as such.

Just moved my router, only slightly, but it's made a difference, much faster, don't know why, as it was more than OK a few days ago, checked my speed, and seems normal.

Are we actually sure it’s not just slowing down for us oldies to be able to keep up?

That can happen. I suspect something in the material of the house was blocking or absorbing some of the wifi signal and the construction of Tony Towers is somewhat substantial. Older houses, especially, can be tricky when it comes to wifi but it's worth it because they're generally built better than modern ones.

My parents' place was built in the 1700s and has foot-thick solid stone walls throughout. They ended up having to install repeaters all over the place to get a decent signal!

I prefer ethernet cable myself so ran lines to where I need them for anything half serious. It makes everything so much less prone to slowdown/interference once done.

Glad it's sorted :-)

WRT to "Wi Fi" Eddy, This laptop sits about 2m ATCF from my BT router which itself sits on a small shelf about a mtr off the floor.

Now, I can run Skype with my son for over 2 hours and never have the slightest glitch but almost always, when I Whatsapp my daughter just a few miles away, from the same seat, I get "lost connection" notices. I move the phone a bit and it comes back. On the other hand I can use the phone on Whap' from my car out front and the signal has to go through a 2 course brick wall and get into my tin Renault which is a good 5m away!

It's OK now, but I don’t know why it suddenly went? We haven’t moved any furniture, or done any building work to interfere with things.

Same here - a single 20-metre ethernet cable crosses three rooms in my house (including going under the bath) to give me a rock-solid connection in my studio that's not subject to the vagaries of Wi-fi.

What is this 'why fly' you speak of
(almost) every room of Folderol Towers has a wired connection back to the router/hub. Some of the greedy buggrs have 2 :o

We have a LinkSys Velop Mesh setup in our old house with its brand-new extension. The Celotex in the new bits combined with the 2’-thick outer walls of the old bits makes predicting signal levels practically impossible. So we have one node in the hall downstairs, one upstairs in the spare bedroom, a third in the kitchen (does one Celotex-shielded space) and a wired link to a fourth one in my converted barn listening-room outside. It all works quite well, but you wouldn’t expect it to looking at where the nodes ended up. In fact, I get better speed and a reliable connection on my computer in the listening room using wifi than using cable. The telly in the kitchen will pick up the node in the hall, but then phones won’t work in the kitchen unless you stand in the doorway …

Sorry to be a doom merchant but I've been getting slowness here as well. It's intermittent but (for the last 3 days or so) when it happens I get a spinny wheel for up to 30 seconds when trying a post, delete or update.

That said, it seems to be behaving itself right now and if not many people have mentioned it I'm happy to put it down as something external to SOS

I'm wondering if this is a routing issue from their service provider, and therefore quite outside SOS control.
