Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 Monitor knob

Post by p3go0 »

I've just plugged in my new Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 for the first time. I get sound in the monitors, but the monitor knob on the hardware doesnt affect the sound at all. The headphone knobs seem to work fine though. I cant find a way to enable HW control in the Focusrite Control. What am I missing?

If you post a screen shot of how you've got the Scarlett MixControl page set up, along with confirmation of what's plugged in where that be helpful in working out what might need tweaking. :)

Someone in "Another Place" had exactly the same problem. Turned out they had not plugged the monitors into the main 1&2 line outs.

Politely told to RTFM...

Is it a 2nd Gen 6i6? If not the G2 mix software can still be used with the Mk1 I understand and is much improved?

(I am bloody ballistic that it WON'T work for my 8i6!!)

Dave.

That someone was the OP for this thread - it is a pity they didn't have the decency to come back to let us know that it had been solved.

What does RT mean? Seems important that I avoid being told this :)

So if I'm playing keys and using in ear monitors, what's the 'best' way to set up my 6i6.

Main output from keys/mac going out of output 3-4 to desk. 1-2 used for my monitoring?

Aux send from desk into, say, input 3.

Can I just plug my in ears into a mini-jack to 1/4" adapter and stick it in output 1?

Then could the big silver knob let me control the mix between keys/mac and the aux send?

Clearly, I need to get reading and watch some more videos. But if someone has the patience to answer I'd be very grateful !

Dave seems to feel the familiar 4 letter acronym is still too long. I believe he meant RTFM

I'm not familiar enough with the 6i6 to answer your routing questions.

But I can tell you that plugging headphones into output 1 won't work very well. Its a mono balanced output, whereas headphones need a stereo unbalanced output.

What's wrong with using the dedicated headphone outputs and using the 6i6 software control panel to build whatever monitoring mix you desire?

I did type RTFM unless you have changed it?

Ermmm, yes, that would make sense. Thanks.

No, you typed "RT..." as per the OP's quote. After replying to him I changed your post to avid further confusion for other readers.

I'm confused now. What "OP's quote"?

Indeed. The OP was p3go0, whilst the ‘RT’ was quoted by Willpearson.

So maybe a RTFT for Hugh? :D

Reliably fallible.

Clearly we need a PIR to establish some CSFs and work out what the KPIs to meet them are.
Document all this in a BRD ready for an SDD and we should be G2G.

(Only one of these isn't a real thing in my job!)
