Splitting a guitar into 3 Interfaces - NO amps

Post by atomic.playboy »

Hello, and thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

This question involves my guitar practice rig which involves two different computers and they cannot be brought to one at this time. Because my question only involves input to audio interfaces, Recording techniques seem the best forum.

I run my guitar out into two different computer interfaces (Steinberg UR12 and a Line 6 ToneDirect). I do this by running the guitar into the ToneDirect and the pass-through output of the ToneDirect into the Steinberg.

I would like to get a Samsung Galaxy involved because I like the tuners on my phone more than any VST or native tuner I can find (Why are PC tuners so bad?). I will be connecting into the Galaxy phone with a little iRig barrel connector.

If I were using two amps, --which I'm not so I don't need amp advice--, I would need my Lehle p-split. But I don't think the guitar should see the same impedance issues with just the interfaces, do I need more than passive y's?

One more complication but perhaps a good one, I use wireless because I'm clumsy and cables are dangerous.

So can I just Y the guitar receiver with one branch going to the ToneDirect and the other going to the Steinberg and sending the direct out from the ToneDirect to the phone? If not, what is the best method to get the highest quality to the Steinberg and useable signal to the other two devices?

Yes, a Y-split will be fine. It's a low impedance output from the receiver which will happily feed multiple destinations.

There is a risk of a ground-loop causing noise when you're connecting two computers.... but try the y-split first and see how it goes.
