Mac Newbie

Post by 2pods »

I've been having a read of the stickies and some threads here, as I'm going to invest in a Mac Studio Max with 1tb and 64gb ram.

I still use a PC with Studio One 6.5, Komplete CE 14, some Toontrack, and Cubase 12.
So while having some DAW skill etc, am now confusing myself regarding plug ins on the native mac hardware and Sonoma. I thought by reading some of the (admittedly older mac hardware) threads AU plug plugins were preferred, but I'm starting to read about "native" vsts plugs.

The mac is currently in it's box until tomorrow, but along with the above, I was wondering if it would be worth downgrading to the mac os before Sonoma until everything I have is compatible, giving I still have the pc ?

Colour me confused

Cubase on a Mac uses VSTs, there's no problem with VSTs.
Cubase runs on Sonoma, at least Cubase 13 does.
You've a nice computer in that box! Enjoy.

Running Sonoma on my new Mac Studio. No problems with plugins incuding UAD, Izotope RX10, Melodyne. Pretty happy with it.

So AU is still the preferred plug in for Logic (when I get it) ?

Does anyone here run Studio One ?

Obviously, there are still problems with some NI stuff ( my S49mk3, for one), so I'll be sitting that out until they're sorted.

Thanks for everyone's help.

It's not the preferred format (indicating there is some sort of choice) - it's the *only* format for Logic.
Logic does not support any other format plugins other than the macOS platform standard.

One more question, if I may...

Would this external drive cut it for libraries like Hollywood Pop Brass, Komplete, etc ?

Portable SSD T7 Shield USB 3.2 Gen 2 4TB

Sorry, I couldn't find a direct link, it was just samsung.co.uk

I use a Samsung shield drive 4TB and it's absolutely fine.
