Advice needed for Yamaha DX11 battery change
Advice needed for Yamaha DX11 battery change
Hi,
I a have Yamaha DX11 which needs to have its RAM battery replaced.
I am based in Sussex in the UK. Could anybody recommend a good service engineer in the South East to do the repair. Also have two other units that need batteries replaced,a Korg M3R and a Sony effects unit.
Cheers
Peter

I have a DX 100 with the same issue. I found this DIY replacement instruction for a DX11 while googleing for a solution. http://concretedog.blogspot.com/2010/01/replace-ram-battery-resurrectionyamaha.html
I have not tried it yet and its been years since I soldered. I am thinking with these instructions anyone with soldering skills could sort it out.
Google pulls up quite a bit on the topic, including posts on Yahama forms

You can get these batteries at any Maplins on the high street - I just fitted one to a DX100. They are standard batteries, I forget the code (CR something I think) but it is stamped on the battery and hasn't changed. Not a difficult job for anyone with basic soldering skills.

Yep, the CR2032 is the most common variety - I’ve found them in my Wavestation SR and M1 and they are just clipped into place rather than soldered (rather unlikely in most cases I suspect).
Seriously Peter - unless you’re really cack-handed you should be able to fit new batteries yourself. Unless there are lots of screws to remove to get inside the case they shouldn’t take you longer than five minutes each

yes, just to add if the battery is soldered in (it is usually in the DX7 and 11) you can always solder in a holder instead. Then just clip the battery in. In the future it can then be changed by just popping in a new one, as Martin says is done on a lot of equipment.
I didn't bother - I will see if I regret it in 15 years time

Indeed the CMOS CR2032 battery
Loads of stuff tellys, music equipment, washing machines, computers, video recorders have them..
Just a case of locating them in the relevent equipment and replacing
(They are used to protect otherwise volatile settings)
I have brought many an item back to life replacing this component.
What i normally do is unplug the power supply mains/power and then switch back the equipment on with no power (this help to remove any current/power stored in the boards/capacitors etc...)
Then locate and replace...
With a type/model of the same
I have heard of certain companys charging £60.00 to basically do this
But when you have the knowledge you can save loads.....
A certain high street super market always have these in stock for around 2 quid.. Ans thier logo has yellow on it.....

Re: Advice needed for Yamaha DX11 battery change
Hi All,
thanks for the advice from everybody. If I could solder I would do the replacement myself. I am a bit concerned about heating up other components on the circuit board while de soldering the old battery. Had my DX11 for over 10 years. I am very attached to it (sad,I know!) and have two TX7's also. Love them and FM synthesis. The battery in the Korg M3R is not soldered in from what I understand. So I can replace that one myself.

I replaced the batteries in my various DX7’s a few times, if I can do it, anyone can.
