Pulling my hair out trying to get ssl/harrison microglide to work as stereo

Post by slightly »

Trying to demo the harrison microglide now included with ssl subscription
I have the microglide on a trial til the 4th of april. i use ableton 11
I want to simply load it on a channel containing a mono recorded file and create a stereo effect, its not working for me!!! :headbang:

Ive contacted support, theyre not great so far, they told me to use it in vst3 as the channel configurations dont work sometimes in AU..I tried this no difference

With every other stereo effect plugin I have, Ive never encountered this problem in ableton, I drop the plugin i.e a chorus effect on a channel with a mono recording and I get the stereo effect, microglide just playing back a mono phasing type effect

Downloaded cubase this moring to see if its an ableton thing after the whole download and activate process I couldnt figure out straight away how to load the plugin, so gave up. Im kinda going around in circles since I activated the trial a few days ago ,and cant get anything but a mono output from the plugin

what possilby is going on, just want to demo it to see if its the stereo effect im looking for

(Speaking from a point of view of never having used this plug-in, but having seen this type of mono/stereo confusion - especially in Cubase - many times...)

Are you placing the plug-in as an insert on a mono track? If so (and if it's a similar situation to the one I've seen a hundred times in Cubase) then because the track is mono you will only get mono out of it.

If this is the problem, then you could maybe route the mono track to a stereo group channel and insert the plug-in on the group. Or you could maybe convert the mono track to a stereo one (Cubase now allows this by just clicking the mono/stereo indicator), though I consider this a bit of a kludge, TBH.

And, if in my ignorance, I'm wide of the mark, maybe others will now chip in.

Could you put it on a send channel and just blend it in that way?

The mono channel to stereo group routing described above for Cubase will also work.

This may not work as expected. Some effects may specifically need to be on an insert - an example might be a chorus that internally pans the dry signal to one side and the modulated to the other. I've seen this problem with some Waves plug-ins.

Yup, I still get caught out by this from time to time in Studio One despite having used it for years! Always worth a check.

Does anyone know if this is similar behaviour to other Harrison FX plugs?

Maybe they have a mono track in/mono out and stereo track in/stereo out philosophy?

Reliably fallible.

Bit too tired too deal with this today no sleep but what u said wonks support said too “routing to a stereo channel”
The weird thing is I’ve never had this issue before…
In ableton, ive recorded the synth to a track using a left and right input, so really its not a single channel anyway it had “input 3&4”
Theres just nothing stereo about the recording, ive been doing this awhile now as i dont see the huge difference, also im not sure
Ableton ever has a channel without the left and right metering, but will have to recheck this
I just have my synth patched to interface input 3&4 and dont see the harm recording stuff with out stereo to a “dual” input if left and right are same, bit lazy i suppose

So really the channel im inserting in should be a stereo mixer channel anyway(again not sure does ableton really do a single mono channel must recheck- this stuff hasn’t bother ed me before)

Also i tried what u and the support guy said just in case i put the output of the channel to an aux
Presuming these arnt mono anyway
And it was the same issue

So im not sure what’s going on
I did try a test breifly in izotope rx
But using. A full track to me still sounded that mono phasing output but wasnt a great test
