Just out of curiosity does it say anywhere what post counts correspond to what rankings or are they a state secret?
Cheers,

As they can be fairly easily determined over time based on visible information they don't qualify as a state secret

May I apply to be bumped down a ranking or two? I'd hate for anyone to accidentally think I knew what I was talking about.

Interesting. I see both Drew and I have reverted to Jedi Poster even though to my knowledge I have never posted a Jedi anywhere. Have the numbers been revised?

Ah so! That'll be a relief for Drew (albeit a short lived one).

Man, I'd just made it to Jedi, and now I need another 6000 posts!
You think you've got problems! I was an Intergalactic Super Poster or something last night. Now I'm just a drone frequent poster. I could have been a contender!!

So there's nothing between Frequent Poster and Jedi Poster? That shows just how silly this sort of thing is (the ridiculous naming I mean). Presumably some idea one of the original coders came up with they thought would be "cool".
A better system would incorporate data derived from the regularity of posting, and other factors perhaps. When's that AI rating module being delivered?

Totally agree with you here, Sonics. If you or anyone else wishes to suggest a Rank title change and post count threshold, I'll consider it. I did have Forum SuperPoster then deleted it (not sure why)...
My motivation was to get some of our long-serving Forumites on to a new level/rank.

In Pink offering insightful views years upon years :
Arpangel, BJG145, Blinddrew, ConcertinaChap,

Sonics being World Class takes an Orange mankini.
There's more for the Pink mankini

It is indeed about the quality of post information.
I didn't invent the phpBB software but I think I'd be lynched if I removed all rank titles!
I do have plans in 2025 to migrate to a superb forum software that gives us bells and whistles like user voting (think "likes") for members who help others frequently... awarding brownie points (that we might possibly allow to be traded in for, say, Amazon Vouchers that SOS forks out for?)...
But, sadly, this is not a free open-source Forum software and comes at a small cost to us.
Anyways, that's a long while coming yet and things might change on the interim journey -- AI is having a big impact in community software too, so it'll be interesting to see where it heads.

Ian, is that Discourse?
I use Discourse forums frequently and the software used by SOS now, is in my opinion, much better.
Discourse has a lot of bells and whistles but the basic experience, for me at least, is quite poor.

I think 5,000 would be good, midwayish between 500 and 10,000.
As to what to call it, I’m not sure. Longtime poster?

Nope, it's not Discourse - looked at that but agree with you, it is lacking.

Colours alone aren't good for inclusion. They don't work for people who are colour blind (up to 8% of men) or those who use a screen reader.

5k intervals in the rankings look quite neat, but it does leave a big gap between Jedi Poster at 10k and Forum Guru at 25k. May I tentatively propose Apprentice Guru somewhere in the middle?

how's "aficionado" more than "guru"? it does not make much sense in the language of the word "aficionado"

I was in a bric a brac type shoppe last week. They had a tray with different colour stones. I wanted a kinda greenish stone so I picked up what the shoppe assistant said is a grey stone
In school I failed colour test on brown red.
Just two colours :
Orange for the World Class forumees,
Pink for experienced,
to go alongside Blue for mods SoS staff.
