EVO 16 as an ADAT?

Post by RobinC »

My son is doing a Music Technology A level. He's also a drummer and part of the course is to multi mic and record a drum kit

My main interfaces are a Motu 828es and 16A linked together with an ethernet cable, I record mainly synths and vocals so have been able to get by on the two Mic Pres that I have

I have an aging Behringer ADA8200 that has largely been loaned out to music friends. A couple of the Mic Pres seem to have become a bit dodgy on it.

So I've started to look at a replacement.

I was looking at ra efurbished Clarett Octopre but then noticed Audient EVO 8SP which is a bit more in my budget range

But then noticed the EVO 16 which is an interface, the price is more or less then same as the 8SP

Can I use the Evo 16 just as an ADAT input into my Motu 828es? Whilst I can't really envisage ever using it as an interface having that flexibility may occasionally be a bonus. Also having a headphone socket on it I presume I can send audio from my Motu setup via ADAT into the Evo 16 so I can give my son a headphone mix, we've done that using the outs on ADA8200 into an evening more aging Roland VM3100 mixer

There is the EVO SP8 which is intended as an ADAT extension to the EV0 16 (or any ADAT extension) but with only £10 difference, for the added functionality of the 16, I couldn't understand why you'd get an SP8.

I asked the question to Audient if 3 EVO 16 could aggregate through ADAT , in the same way as 1 EVO16 and 2 SP8s but never got an answer.

This would suggest you can: https://support.audient.com/hc/en-us/ar ... +apollo+x8
Obviously you'll need to connect it up first to configure it but it should subsequently work as an 8 channel pre-amp and converter.
