Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
I’ve just discovered a Quiklok 4 tier stand that perfectly fits the space in my studio. Thing is, I can only get it special order from Bax or from a French seller who has it in stock via Reverb.
Anyone bought via Reverb? Any thoughts?

I've bought and sold on Reverb quite a bit with very good results here in the US. I've dealt mostly with individuals, but sometimes with dealers and companies. Nothing internationally though.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.
Re: Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
My experience has been positive both selling and buying.
Reverb have also been helpful when needed.

Regular Reverb user, one of the best sites out there for secondhand audio gear.
Re: Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
Never had an issue here either.
In fact going to list some gear tomorrow as the trade in offers I have had recently from retailers are way below what I can get via Reverb.
Not having a go at the retail world but it seems of late they almost do not want to take trade in gear so offer very little.

Re: Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
Retailers always pay crap prices, thats the pitfall of trying to go the hassle free route of selling to them rather than selling it yourself, selling privately is always a gamble, but retailers tend to offer an easy way to move the gear on, however many of the top retailers have jumped onto the secondhand market whereas years ago most of them wouldn't touch trade-ins.
I've dealt with my fairshare of tyrekickers and timewasters over the years and sometimes you think why did I even bother? its frustrating at times doing it privately, retailers generally offer a warranty when they resell your items so always are going to undercut the market value, when they buy off you that said though they seem to way overprice the gear when they resell it as well.
I have been offered some trade in prices on some gear recently from a retailer and felt a little insulted to be honest,I'm more than aware of the secondhand values, after buying selling for decades privately,it verges on plain greed sometimes, generally i see them offering 2/3rds of the current market value but then selling them on well above what they should actually be but I think many people are not going for expensive synths and stuff nowadays,I've advertised mine well below what market values are at the moment and not had any interest but big ticket items are hard to move because I guess many people have very little disposable income at this current economic climate,I would rather keep hold of the gear than sell it at a massive loss to a retailer just to shift it.
Reverb is a decent place,I have yet to sell anything on their mainly as its become very much like eBay with its fees, although its still cheaper but I stopped using fleabay for selling for that reason I've bought things on Reverb and have had a decent experience so far as it utilised by actual musicians rather then a free for all auction sites generally the people selling the instruments have actually looked after them

What an absolute pain in the posterior!
The retailer is super cool, but because they’re in France, I need to pay duty, so the courier (La Poste) tracking tells me the parcel is being held awaiting payment. But I don’t know which courier has the job of the UK leg of the journey (and the La Poste tracker doesn’t say) The courier don’t have my email address or phone number, so no way of contacting me, to request payment.
And of course La Poste, while their tracker gives updates in English, as soon as you hit the help button you’re handed off to a French chat bot.
Another win for Brexit!

I've avoided any purchases outside of the UK on there (and generally) recently for fear of situations like that! Although it's probably a good thing as my Reverb account and lack of self-control has just resulted in another box arriving at the studio, so limiting my reach can only help...
Hope you get it all sorted out soon.

I bought an expensive pedal from a person who only had an online Reverb shop. I saved some money. Good experience. No hassle.
Tried to sell my edrums on Reverb but they went faster on FB marketplace. I still chuckle at some of the weird things, complete with sob stories, I was offered in trade on marketplace, even though I posted No Trades.

Well, to draw the thread to a conclusion, it all worked well.
The French dealer was easy to deal with, La Poste handed the stand off to Parcelforce who sent me the VAT/duty invoice by post, which I paid online and less than 24 hours after that I have my splendid new Quiklok stand

Just need to wire it all up now

Not sure if it will work in that particular sort of case, but I often get parts imported from Asia that use a last-mile local delivery service and there's often no real way to figure out which one it is. In the US it usually winds up delivered by the Post Office but it often goes through DHL or another private intermediary from the original shipping company. This tracking site can usually figure it out: https://www.17track.net/en
Re: Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
Put an advert on there last week and so far my experience has been that my only contacts have been from attempted scammers posing as Reverb employees.

Re: Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
I've sold a few things on there - my old Roland VG99, it's stand, a pair of Marshall cabs - been pretty positive really. Certainly no better/worse than eBay at the end of the day, noting that Reverb is a reverse auction/bargaining format and eBay is more traditional in that regard.
