Finally decided to take the plunge into hardware and looking at the (now much cheaper) Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator Modular 400.
I know I'll need an audio interface to get it's output into my DAW, but was hoping to use it with headphones or a pair of powered speakers before I did that.
However, reading the documentation I see... "do not connect headphones directly... you can damage your headphones or much worse, your ears"
Is this really the case, or is it just an 'excess of caution'? The (stereo) output is listed at 1.3Vpp.

Re: Synth Newbie Advice (Interfaces)
You would probably be fine with high impedance headphones but it sounds like it has a fair bit of current capability so low impedance headphones could be too loud. If you just want to plug in headphones then I'd suggest using a small headphone amp like the Behringer HA400. This will give four outputs with separate level controls on each output so that you could also hook up speakers to one of the outputs if you wanted.

I think it works at Eurorack modular levels, which are a bit hotter than line level.
Surprised it doesn’t have a dedicated headphone out.
