Ozone10 in Master Bus?
Ozone10 in Master Bus?
Hi all, I'm creating this post today as I'm in need of a little help as to whether or not it's a good idea to use Izotope Ozone10 in my master bus in FL or whether I should just use it for the final MIX when Mastering the entire mix. Also as Izotope has several EQ's on board do I need a separate EQ or Compressor?
Re: Ozone10 in Master Bus?
You can use Ozone in either way. If your computer is powerful enough you can mix right into it with it on your master bus. Some like to finish a mix, and then concentrate solely on the mastering as a separate process.
Ozone includes all the EQ and compression you are likely to need; other tools are not a requirement at all, but many engineers will have their favourites which are not in Ozone.
Have you checked out the guides on the iZotope website?

Re: Ozone10 in Master Bus?
My computer isnt a powerhouse, however, it's not too weak nether. I's running on 64GB of RAM, i7-11850HE 8 core. It seems to cope OK on most occasions, however, from time to time I notice a few pops & crackles on my mix whether this is down to using Ozone & too many other plugins I'm not sure.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Ozone10 in Master Bus?
Thanks for the info chaps all helps. Would you say it's a bad thing to get carried away with & rely on the auto options in Ozone such as learn Threshold & Learn in the Exciter? Or would you say it's better practice to find the sound yourself?
Re: Ozone10 in Master Bus?
That depends on what you're trying to achieve.
If you're a musician first and foremost and just want to get your material out there, use the auto options and tweak until they sound good.
If you want to learn how to mix properly, then you'll need to settle in for the long haul and start from the basics.
There are all manner or short-cuts and automations you can pick up along the way, but unless you understand the basics you won't know when and how best to apply them.

When you go for a haircut, would you rather tell the hairdresser what you want, or say "give me the same as your previous client"?...

Well to be honest I can't remember what I said to my barber the last time I had a haircut I've been as bald as a coot for the past twenty years. But yes I know what your saying it's for the best to manually find that sound your after. Trouble is that software is so damn good & full of so many options I find myself a little lost for choice sometimes. I think I'm just going to stick to using it in the master from now on.
