PolyBrute 12

Post by Eddy Deegan »

Not on the Arturia website at the time of writing but loopop just released a video reviewing the new Arturia PolyBrute 12, an updated PolyBrute with 12 voices and their own implementation of a polyAT keybed.

I like the original PolyBrute a lot and will be interested to see more details as they emerge but at £3499 (according to Thomann) I'll stick with what I have!

Arturia page is now live, as is an SOS News story, of course.

I had a feeling this one wouldn't pass you by, Eddy!

Nice. And am I seeing... an IEC mains socket? Arturia just rose in my esteem.

For me it just needed that third oscillator. Maybe it's possible to stack for 6-voices of 4 oscillators?

That's the 'brutal' but! Does look a lovely bit of kit though

I'm not really a fan of Arturia's current industrial design language, and think this looks somewhat, er, unsubtle or robust, but I've heard nice things coming out of the previous Polybrute, and I'm sure this is no exception...

Not into the synth aspect, but that 'full touch' keybed is impressive.

That keyboard is impressive, but I really wish it had a of bit side movement for controlled vibrato, like the Osmose. I'd miss that.

If I hadn't already got the original PolyBrute and the UDO Super Gemini I'd have pre-ordered a PolyBrute 12 already I suspect. Sonically it doesn't sound significantly different to the original, although there are the additional control-related aspects, and I find the morphee controller wonderful in practice.

I wouldn't be without the UDO now but the Arturia looks like a great synth and I'm sure will do well. I hope SOS will review it and look forward to reading what they have to say if so.

Just to be clear, you means looks impressive? No one here has played it yet, correct?

I like the passive cooling; big vents with no fans. Only works with "size is no object" analog devices though :D

I played it at Superbooth. In the short run through from a rep and subsequent noodle I had it holds a lot of promise for me. It's kind of what I've been waiting about 15 years for. Or even longer. I'm a bit of a non-believer in poly-aftertouch or even aftertouch full stop tbf, it's just not 'pianistic' so to speak. The key dip approach seems to segue with traditional keyboard technique better. But it also transitions into poly aftertouch v seamlessly too.

I didn't care for the Osmose when I tried it, too wobbly and spongy, this is basically like a normal keyboard but you do adjust your playing according to the patch you've set up.

Only thing now is if you wanna stump up the £3.5k to get one :shifty:

It's very impressive. I certainly wouldn't describe what I've done with it as playing (I've briefly mashed away at it with my shovel hands and noises came out), but it feels incredibly responsive.

I really like it. I think if I was after a synth to actually learn how to play properly, it'd be high on the list.
