Harpsichord
We were Driving into Bristol this morning and Golden Brown came on the radio, and it occurred to me I couldn’t recall a single other pop song that features the harpsichord as the main instrument.
Anyone got others?

Re: Harpsichord
Beatles In My Life is double speed piano, not a harpsichord.
Does a sampled one count? Orbital used the very nice Emu EIIIx harpsichord on the extended version of The Box. Note the main theme is a dulcimer (multi sample provided by a friend of theirs).
They were inspired by John Barry who used all the esoteric keyboard instruments including harpsichord. I just cannot think of one of his right now…
Beatles- Because, Baldwin electric harpsichord. Came with its own cabinet which they also used as a guitar amp from time to time. XTC used the same instrument on The Last Balloon on the Apple Venus vol 1 album. It’s still at Abbey Road.
All the other Beatles examples given are whatever harpsichord they had in for classical recording sessions. The story goes that they did not have permission for Piggies, did it in between the classical sessions. Played by producer Chris Thomas.

Re: Harpsichord
I think you mean "In My Life"? but, yes it is (according to The Beatles Complete Scores it is piano and marked '8ve basso'). But since it is clearly intended to sound like a harpsichord (style, phrasing etc) I think it qualifies for inclusion here.

Eh? But yes, agreed, it was definitely intended to evoke harpsichord, and it does

Yes are one of my favourite bands, particularly the pre Trevor Horne era (which I did like too but it was a bit too mainstream/pop really for my taste).

Re: Harpsichord
Sorry it is not clear to me what you are asking. We are both saying In My Life is a double speed piano, right?
I was gonna mention The Six Wives of Henry VIII, but it's prog not pop? Although it was very popular in its day.
Here is the Orbital useage, I think it's pretty cool to have harpsichord with jungle type drums that were created with a real kit not sampled off a record.

Which is another way of saying it was recorded at 1/2 speed - no wonder i find the twiddly bits difficult !
Re: Harpsichord
I would find it a challenge also. Sounds like Chris Thomas would not though
Ah ok! No prob

Now to find some Harpsichord sample packs. I've never used a Harpsichord sample in a tune. I should've really.
