For the last decade, I have been recording tons of audio with the great Sound Devices 702 using only the two XLR microphone inputs. I'd now like to expand my knowledge of this multifaceted device.
My question here is, what do you use the BNC Inputs for? Since I'm pretty much an audio guy, my knowledge of BNC and their use is limited. Yes, the manual says BNC can be used as a digital AES input.
Do you use it for feeding audio to cameras? For feeding time code?
If it is for feeding time code, does that mean you do not have to bother with using an external device like a Tentacle sync.?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Kevin
P.S. I have fed audio from my 702 to my DSLR using a TRS from the 702 to the trs input on my camera.
What do you use SD 702 BNCs for ?
Re: What do you use SD 702 BNCs for ?
A tip about BNC cables? They are extremely fiddly to assemble and solder, especially if new to them. If you need any BNC to other 'ends' best to buy double length BNC-BNC, chop in half and make two adapter leads.
I do the same for 3.5mm TRS plugs, been a few years since eyes could cope.
Dave.

All the info you need is in the manual. One of the BNC inputs accept a wordclock signal for synchronisation of sample rate with a second digital device, and the other accepta a dual-channel digital audio input. It's intended for the AES3id format, but will also accept S/PDIF and AES3 via a suitable adapter.
The other two BNCs provide wordclock and AES3id outputs.

Yes, no, no, and no.
