Exactly!

No wonder Mick Karn is my favourite fretless bass player ;)

Still mourning the loss of my 'Jedi Poster" status :)

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

I wanna know how he glided across the stage. :P Japan is one of my favourite bands of all thyme.

There's a Bass player utuub channel where he breaks down plays licks grooves from famouse Bass players.
Here is his Mick Karn video.

To me Mick combines sense of space quirkiness groove. These 3 combined makes Mick stand out imo.

I've wanted to make a Bass albuume another to do list lol.
I just missed ooot doh on a decent semi acoustic Bass Uke seller was offering £50.
I'd also get a Donner B1 for squelchy TB303 stylee Basslines for an albuume.

Well, I think I'll be sending mine back. The double bass repair bill was rather huge (more than the bass itself... and just a set of strings were over £200!), so yet another bass guitar seems a bit extravagant. And having paid so much to get it done, I want to take the double seriously again - so now is not the time to invest the hours in learning to play a short scale unlined fretless!

The bass itself seemed ok for the most part, nice build quality, but needed a setup as expected. The main concern is that the bottom A and E aren't far from unplayable - they sound completely dead compared to D and G, with pretty much no sustain, and a very prominent metallic ringing/resonance/overtone that clashes with the intended note - it almost sounds like a ring modulator of sorts even when just played acoustically! If I wanted to keep it, I'm sure it would be a fairly straighforward fix - most probably duff strings or something to do with the bridge position or the big metal tailpiece. Initially I though it might have been the pickups too close to the strings, but I lowered them and it's still the same.

No fun all round.
Is the double bass playing nicely now at least?

Yes. It’s like having a completely new instrument. It’s gone from being almost unplayable to being a whole lot of fun.

The action on the G string seems a touch too low for me, but other than that, it’s awesome… but now I can’t use the bass as an excuse any more!

Actually I've found a much better excuse now.
These days I just say, "I'm terribly sorry, I'm afraid I'm a really terrible bass player."
It seems to do the job nicely.

I love my NS EUB, it's a thing of beauty and a joy to play, sometimes I'll just have a noodle on it unamplified 'cos it's so tactile. In fact that's probably better as I'm such a rubbish bass player

It's my main instrument. Whether I'm any good or not is entirely subjective.

Maybe have a listen to some of my music from either Dick Venom & The Terrortones or Hurtsfall and decide for yourself.

Do you mean someone who plays the bass well, or someone who plays a good quality instrument?

Hint, I qualify for the latter :bouncy:

For the record, I was being tongue in cheek but appear to have omitted the requisite winky smiley.
I know we've got good bass players on here because I've heard quite a few of them. :)
