No wonder Mick Karn is my favourite fretless bass player
I wanna know how he glided across the stage. Japan is one of my favourite bands of all thyme.
There's a Bass player utuub channel where he breaks down plays licks grooves from famouse Bass players.
Here is his Mick Karn video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jFyZMd6Axoc
To me Mick combines sense of space quirkiness groove. These 3 combined makes Mick stand out imo.

I've wanted to make a Bass albuume another to do list lol.
I just missed ooot doh on a decent semi acoustic Bass Uke seller was offering £50.
I'd also get a Donner B1 for squelchy TB303 stylee Basslines for an albuume.
Well, I think I'll be sending mine back. The double bass repair bill was rather huge (more than the bass itself... and just a set of strings were over £200!), so yet another bass guitar seems a bit extravagant. And having paid so much to get it done, I want to take the double seriously again - so now is not the time to invest the hours in learning to play a short scale unlined fretless!
The bass itself seemed ok for the most part, nice build quality, but needed a setup as expected. The main concern is that the bottom A and E aren't far from unplayable - they sound completely dead compared to D and G, with pretty much no sustain, and a very prominent metallic ringing/resonance/overtone that clashes with the intended note - it almost sounds like a ring modulator of sorts even when just played acoustically! If I wanted to keep it, I'm sure it would be a fairly straighforward fix - most probably duff strings or something to do with the bridge position or the big metal tailpiece. Initially I though it might have been the pickups too close to the strings, but I lowered them and it's still the same.

Ah, that old chestnut!
Drew still does.
Actually I've found a much better excuse now.
These days I just say, "I'm terribly sorry, I'm afraid I'm a really terrible bass player."
It seems to do the job nicely.
I love my NS EUB, it's a thing of beauty and a joy to play, sometimes I'll just have a noodle on it unamplified 'cos it's so tactile. In fact that's probably better as I'm such a rubbish bass player
For the record, I was being tongue in cheek but appear to have omitted the requisite winky smiley.
I know we've got good bass players on here because I've heard quite a few of them.
