If I am right and MOTU have dropped W7 support I suppose I cannot blame them? Not a lot anyway. And by "support" I just mean keeping a W7 driver available, I don't expect them to fix things for such an old OS.
The are six pages of downloads listed for the M-Series driver. I see no evidence that Windows 7 was ever supported. It was EOL for four years already when the M-series was released! What version driver did you have that worked?
No, you won't because it ain't there no more! I know it was there because about the second thing I did when I got my M4 was set it up on my W7 laptop. I shall have a look for the driver number.
As an aside, MOTU are SUCH nice people that I bet if I asked them directly they would find the driver for me?
Msoft are sneaky though...A few days ago I decided to clean up the desktop on this W10 laptop (don't ask!) and one thing on there was "Msoft related" so I opened it and found out it was some 'corporate ****' about Edge. Never want anything to do with Edge so I tried to shut it down...no 'X' anywhere. Even Task Manager did not help and I had to power down. Booted up and right clicked on the icon to delete it. That OPENED it again! Long short, I ran RevoUninstaller in advanced mode but Edge was still clinging on by its fingernails and there was a lot of crap to click after a scan.
Did a reboot then ran Ccleaner's Registry scan. LOADSASTUFF.
I have I know uninstalled Edge years ago and so it must have been slid in secretly with an update. Bar Stewards!

That may be MS Edge for Business. I have four different university accounts and an NHS one for MS 365, which is the standard all these organisations use, but they don't always play together nicely, e.g. the NHS version likes sole ownership. So I use different browsers for different accounts and MS Edge for Business is one I now have to use for a certain university. Is it implemented well? Not yet..........

That rings a bell Nazard...I don't want any other browser than Firefox, that is confusing enough. I have had problems with email ever since BT made "improvements" about six months ago. I have tried to sort it with BT but do not know which bit is their fault and which may be Firefox? I do not know how to email a F&B at Firefox to ask.

What worries me is that I read an announcement saying the eLicencer dongle will be unsupported at all in 2025 and licences won't be transferrable.
You seem to be making a meal of this!
Well if I were to make a meal out of my Cubase licenses I'd go hungry because they've vanished,
I tried to run up c11, c10,m c8.5 and a message came up, the wording of which I cannot remember, but I know it was the message that mean no licence found and on looking at eLicenser and running the eLicenser menu, no licenses, c13 is there because it is the software licence (online)
So I have ended up taking c8.5 c10 and c11 off, I can't be bothered faffing around with it. I do have c6 on a separate dongle and might bring that into play

What do you do when Microsoft informs you that your PC needs updating?
Until now, I have always updated straightaway. However, until two days ago when @wonks suggested a solution, my PC has been playing up for months as a result of a power saving setting that was changed by a Windows update. Prior to that update, my machine had worked perfectly ever since I’d taken delivery of it 18 months before then.
So this morning, I am working away and enjoying a PC running perfectly when I notice that familiar icon in the bottom right corner of the screen telling me I should update. I’m nervous to do so now, yet the PC is often connected to the internet and I suppose it’s essential to do so.
What do you do?
I wouldn't recommend ignoring Windows Updates, from a security perspective. Especially if you're using your PC for web browsing as well as music making.
Hello, about updating my computer, I would have answered yes, until very recently. I experienced crackings when listening to my recordings (I am a voice over artist and it should not happened as I don't use too many ressources while using audacity and izotope rx10). After having a look on Google & YouTube, the solution provided were not working. And searching deeper I learned that recent Windows updates were responsible for these crackings. Microsoft was informed about it, but no moves from them. I decided to uninstall all the updates installed in 2024 and block the automatic updates as long as I could. And it worked.
But recently, my computer made the update anyway and have a guess...I can't uninstall it!! But I still don't have the problem anymore. Also because I have uninstalled all the applications & plugins I never used.
From all of this, I learned how to give a real time/ high priority to the programs I use the most, and most importantly to give real-time priority to the process audioxxx (sorry I don't remember the exact name but it's the only one), using a tool named lasso : I try to minimise the delay in the headphones because my recording is going through the mic to my mixer, to my computer using a dedicated soft for eq and noise reduction and going back to the headphones plugged into the mixer, without using voicemeeter as it uses too many ressources and creates crackings instantly.
LeSaff, can I ask why you don't record 'dry' and run the EQ and noise reduction afterwards? That way you don't get a delay and you can use a large buffer size which will eliminate glitching. Why do you need noise reduction?
You also don't mention the audio interface you are using? If, horror of horrors, you are using the computer's sound card I am not surprised you get "cracking." You really need a good, low latency interface running ASIO drivers and Audacity cannot do that. Cockos Reaper will and I can strongly recommend the MOTU M2/M4 as an interface.
