Can this be done ? Well I have actually seen this done but it was very cumbersome.
I have a set of AKG K712 and am forever running over the wire with the casters on my chair, for some strange reason they seem to gravitate towards them
I did start trying of thinking of ways to solve this rather irritating problem by somehow feeding the wire through a hook so it kind of fed out and kept out of my way, but that didn't work...
I used to have a similar problem until I realised that I had a convenient structure over my head (acoustic cloud) that I could loop the headphone cord over and eliminate the problem.
Much better than having to handle the additional issues of latency and bodged adaptors etc.

It's true! Must be this model.
My best method is to velcro-tie my headphone cable over my Rode streaming mic arm so it is always overhead. Maybe you can rustle up something similar.
To answer the OP, yes it can be done. Transmitter/receiver systems can be purchased, but you'll have to deal with some latency. Depending on the technology in use, sound quality will be good to excellent.
