Boss GT-6 issues after replacing battery
I had to replace the CR2032 cmos battery in the unit as it refused to boot up. I didn't even know It had a battery. Suffice to say I have lost 20 years of custom patches (very poor design imo) But nevertheless after replacing with a new battery it isn't quite the same. Lots of gobbledygook text until you get higher up in the banks. It seems to have reset to factory except the gobbledygook banks. I am also getting erratic responses from pushing the effects buttons and some lag with the level and feedback knobs. This is a bit better than the first time I switched on with the new battery. Any reason why this would happen ?

Unfortunately before the advent of low-cost flash memory, a lot of devices relied on battery backup to preserve non-volatile data when power was removed.
When the battery is replaced, all data in memory is lost but when the device is turned back on again, data may well be random values, causing the kind of issue you see. Normally you select a 'factory reset' option to resolve this, if it's available.
I have this issue every time I have to change the battery on my FS1R, for instance, and to add to the fun, the display contrast resets to being virtually unreadable so then you have to navigate the menu and try and find the contrast setting to reset this before you can then do a factory reset and then restore the patches that were saved externally back to the unit. It's a right faff, but unfortunately not uncommon on older gear.

"I had to replace the CR2032 cmos battery in the unit as it refused to boot up"
I am wondering if you are supposed to change the battery BEFORE it dies completely? Maybe with the device powered up so that it keeps its settings?
Dave.

Re: Boss GT-6 issues after replacing battery
Try the factory reset and re-initialisation procedure:
https://support.roland.com/hc/en-us/art ... y-Settings
If that doesn't restore normal operation then there may have been some static damage during the battery replacement, or perhaps corrosion damage if the original battery leaked.

Re: Boss GT-6 issues after replacing battery
from the manual on page 76:
"Value Locked Error message"
..you've attempted to switch patches by rotating the PATCH/VALUE dial, but the Dial function is set to "VALUE Only."
..If you want to be able to switch patches using the PATCH/VALUE dial, set the Dial function to "PATCH No. & VALUE."
Might be worth a look.
edit: Haha Hugh beat me to it

Re: Boss GT-6 issues after replacing battery
Funny that. Always the first port of call after a backup battery change.
