Seemingly no longer an 'elderly'.
Now a 'Senior'. Is that promotion?

I've had a few too.

Were told it's due to 'the bots' scraping the site for AI training....

Not convinced (and I'm not sure you are either). If this was the case I'd expect to see it or similar on other sites but I haven't.

Today I've had an absolute explosion of these - rendering the site almost unusable. Commiserations is this out of the site's control, but thought you should know.

I had a conversation with Paul & Ian Gilby at GearFest recently.

The site is regularly under attack from bots attempting to scrape the site for data to train AI. China is the source of many of these attacks.

We get the error messages when attacks overwhelm the servers. The team behind the scenes are fighting a running battle with the bots, and are banning ranges of IP addresses where they are identified.

I have no reason (or web design knowledge) to doubt what I've been told. The rolling eyes were alluding to 'the bloody bots' which seem to cause no end of trouble.

I've not seen gateway issues on other sites, but how many other sites do you/I visit that have the huge amount of freely accessible, high quality, technical information as SOS?

Interesting question. The Register, Macworld and concertina.net would be the majority, with a number of other sites rather less often, like EFDSS and the ICA (International Concertina Association) and then there's my own site, the Concertina FAQ. Perhaps comparatively less in volume, the concertina sites, but still full of high quality technical information.
