Contacting members

Post by DanielBeach »

Hi all,

I'd like to be able to send a private message to a couple of members, particularly as I've seen them recommended as tutors for various music production topics.....however....I don't seem to be able to? If I hover over a member's username in the forum, it doesn't turn into a link, and nothing happens if I click it. And, if I click on the "speech" bubble for contact, that doesn't work either....

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Daniel

If I click your username in that post, it goes to a page to send you a message. (Chrome.) Or you could go to the "Private messages" section in your account. There's a link for that above these posts.

Are you running adblockers or some other browser extensions?

If I click a user's forum name, it takes me to their profile page, and "Send Private Message" is an option there...

Clicking (or right clicking) on the member name should take you to their profile page where there is a contact section. This should work on their name in both the header and the signature box at the foot of the post.

Many thanks for the replies - I’m not able to click on anything - it doesn’t take me anywhere if I click on a member’s name! I shall try looking to see if I have ad-blockers (although I don’t think I do).

Or am I just untrusted in the forum and my liberties have been restricted :-)

It's possible that your profile rights have become corrupted. I've asked someone to look into it for you...

Thanks, Hugh.
Still not working, on any device, so suspect it may be account related.

If you go directly to my profile page:

Do you see the Contact section with the PM link? Can you send me a test PM?

Yes, I'm afraid it sounds like your account permissions have become corrupted somehow. This has happened before.... I'll raise it again with someone in a back room.

Same issue for me too - so maybe there's a wider problem?

Thanks - Ok, at least this confirms what the issue is. I'm sure SOS will get you sorted out before too long...

Same issue for me also. I noticed it when I was browsing the reader ads.

And for me. I'm pretty sure I also used to see a drop down box when I clicked on my own name, but that's disappeared too.

Mine seems to be working fine - so it's not global.
I was going to send a PM to one of the posters with the problem to see if they can receive messages, but if you can't get at the "Message" menu at all, I'm guessing that's a lost cause.

Maybe some of us are on Santa's "nice" list rather than his "naughty" list? ;):D

I can personally access my inbox and see messages - I just can’t click on a member’s name to see their profile and/or send them a message

I'm sorry this is dragging on. The guys are looking into it. I know the profile access and PM systems are working because I tested them with Ian yesterday.

There has been a change already with the 'speech bubble' contact link in the footer.

It wasn't working yesterday, but now when I click on it it pops up icons to select PM or email.

Hi - as of a few minutes ago, I'm still not able to post private messages, as nothing happens when I click on a forum user's name. The red speech bubble is also not functioning.
If I click on my own name, nothing happens - though I can access my previous notifications and private messages.
Is this just me or is there a continuing wider problem?

It is just you, I'm afraid! Unfortunately Ian G is away on holiday at the moment and he would normally fix this kind of issue. But I'll remind the rest of the team that you're still having problems.

Apologies again on behalf of SOS.

Apologies for the shenanigans - we will be changing the permissions settings again tomorrow morning to hopefully restore the ability for every registered user to PM any member once you have clicked on their avatar username link.

Guests who have no account nor anyone not logged in cannot PM members (this has never been possible, to help prevent spam abuse).

We have fixed the speech bubble problem, so try logging out and back in again with your My Account on the site, and clicking the 3 dots should display two icons to allow sending of a PM or an Email via the forum.
