Yamaha MX61 no sound at output

Post by Arpangel »

OK, tried everything, local on, er, is on, all part/program volumes set to 127.
I'm stumped, checked it on other things, external amp, nothing.
But, it works through headphones.
Any ideas?

If it's connected into your mixing desk, have you double-checked all the levels and routing on there? You probably have, but it's caught me out before!

Edit: Oh, I see you mention an external amp - that was a direct connection?

I guess you tried connecting the same output lead to something else to check the signal path, tested R/L, and want to avoid a factory reset...? Maybe worth checking how the "Direct Monitor" switch is set?

DirectMonitor
(Direct monitor switch)
When using this instrument with a computer, this determines whether the audio signal of this instrument is output or not to the OUTPUT [L/MONO]/[R] jacks and [PHONES] jack (Direct Monitoring). If you wish to hear only the sound which is looped back from the computer via the USB [TO HOST] terminal, set this parameter to off. You can use this setting when you want to apply a VST plug-in effect (on the computer) to the sound of the instrument.
Settings: off, on

Might have to try a “factory reset” though you need to back up any presets you’ve made.
I would think the headphone socket and output jacks would be mounted on the same pcb so the chance of an internal cable dislodging would be unlikely.
Definitely check settings in utilities as mentioned previously.

It's working, don’t know why, it just is, all settings seem unchanged.
This is disconcerting, will it do it again? I've never had this unreliability from Yamaha stuff, ever.

Great! I shouldn't worry about it; it's probably user error. :bouncy:

Yep, you can't blame the keyboard until you know what caused the issue. ;)

PS, thought I'd just buy another one, no, not at the prices these are going for right now, be lucky to pick one up for under £250.
I need to find someone that will repair it.
However, im going to do a factory reset today, as someone said they had the same issue, and it fixed it, who knows?
