DPA 4006TL

Post by awjoe »

I was listening tonight, for the first time, to an album that was quickly becoming some of the best music I'd heard in a lifetime or two, so I was moved to peruse the liner notes for the album, and therein I discovered this item:

'Main Microphones for The Goat Rodeo Sessions: DPA 4006TL Omnidirectional microphones.'

The music I was listening to was a great endorsement for the mics.

How often do liner notes endorse gear used in the making of the album like this?

That is a great album. I shall have to fish it out and read the liner notes.

Not as often as I'd like. More common on specialist audiophile and small ensemble recordings from smaller labels.

Phenomenal sounding, and phenomenal music! I had a curious evening yesterday - I listened to two new-to-me albums (the other one was 'Satchmo Plays Fats') to each of which I give five stars after one listening. Over an hour of astounding music that had me hanging on every note, shaking my head in amazement, misting up, and laughing by turns. It's just a privilege to hear some people play.

The DPA (B&K) 4006 omni is indeed a beautiful mic, bass to die for, rich, smooth, all the usual.
I’ve used them on occasion, and got to know the sound, just wish I had a pair, they don’t suit some situations though, like any mic.

Hey Joe nice one. Enjoyed listening to the album this morning.

Goes to show brilliantly written composed museek played by World Class players on World Class instruments is most of the job done.
Don't even have to mix much or at all as the players do the mixing in how they dovetail with one another when playing.

Imagine stacking 5 deep heevee Kicks and stacking 4 different Bass sounds per piece then trying to mix this whilst keeping every nuance subtelty of the playing on every instrument by these World Class players.

Can imagine it could be a nightmare. Reason I wrote on another thread mixing deep heevee stacked Kicks Basses with Acoustic instruments is difficult mixing (at least for me).
