Motu 828 mk2 FireWire and logic 8

Post by forumuser805990 »

Hi
Apologies for this question as it seems simple but perhaps I’m doing something wrong.
I have some synths and hardware routed into a Yamaha O2R with one ADAT card routing 8 44.1k digital channels via lightpipe into my 828mk2 which works fine as I can hear the digital output into the 828 and the meters show in input.
The cue mix software shows ADAT channels 1-8 fine.
I can hear all the channels going into the 828 fine.
My problem is I can’t record anything into logic at all?
What do I need to select in Logic or cue mix to record from the 828 via FireWire?
I’m just missing this last step which is driving me nuts! :wtf:
Anyone any ideas? I’m using logic 8 on an old 10.5 Mac PowerBook.
Thanks in advance!

Have you selected it as the main interface in Audio Midi Setup app?

It’s quite possible I’ve missed a crucial driver download.
It’s set up as the main audio in/out in logics main audio preference?
I can hear it through the monitors and cue mix 828 software.
Not sure what else to try.

I had an 828 MK11 FW it just wouldn’t work with my 2013 iMac, needed an older OS, I’m sure this is an OS issue, I gave up in the end and bought something newer.

IIRC MotU devices required their own application to route audio between the computer and the various inputs and outputs on the hardware. Have you checked how this is set up?

This is most likely, I got the Motu second hand (it works fine) and went to the Motu website to download the drivers for my OS. I thought I’d downloaded everything but could have missed something.
I’ll double check I’ve got all the applications that work with the unit and report back.
Many thanks

Did you try Audio Midi Setup? I don't use Cuemix or any other MOTU software and the device is class compliant as far as I know. I have a 2014 iMac 5k running MacOS 11.7.1 and have no problems. The 828 is connected via a thunderbolt to firewire adaptor. I can use all the ports although to be honest all I've used for ages are the two front inputs and the headphone jack.

So I grabbed a different updated driver from the motu website which didn’t do anything I couldn’t already do.
Then checked the audio preferences in Logic to no avail.
Finally I checked the audio/midi preferences in the Mac itself and the routing was incorrect.
It turns out that for Logic 8 the routing is a little convoluted and inputs are from 15 - 22 for 8 channels of digital for some odd reason?
Anyway, tried recording the output of the Motu ADAT into a mono audio Logic channel it works fine!

A happy ending and a little extra knowledge for the collective pool. Nice one.
