Recommend multifx box with looper?
Looking for a multifx/@amp sim unit with easy to use looper for my son to help with learning solos etc. Second hand is fine up to about £150 just so he can practise. One of the Boss ME units maybe? There are so many these days and I’m not a guitar player so need a bit of advice. Cheers.
Re: Recommend multifx box with looper?
Does he already have an fx unit or pedalboard? It's much simpler to buy a separate pedal and patch it in between the fx and amp. Most 'built in' loopers only do 40-60 seconds (or less) which should be enough for a solo in most cases but is too short to do a whole tune (AABA or similar) which is how I use mine.
If he needs a multi fx then I haven't used anything that gets the job done for as little as £150, mine is a Headrush Gigboard which works well, sounds great and has plenty of loop memory, it can also save loops. But they are £450 new and around £250 used.
Apart from that Loopers fall into a couple of formats, Boss types with huge memory and the ability to store loops and TC Ditto* types which don't store multiple loops (some will retain the last recorded over switch off some don't). For practicing I like the simplicity of the latter as it means I have to re-record my rhythm part each time before noodling endlessly over the top so it forces me to keep my rhythm chops up. The other significant difference is how many buttons it has, for practice a single button is ok but for performance/busking etc I find having a dedicated stop button is much easier to use.

* My TC Ditto's have 5 mins of memory, the Boss ones have 3 hours and can store 99 loops.

People often mistake me for a grown-up because of my age.

The Digitech RP series often go for low prices secondhand, and are far better then most people seem to give them credit for.
The RP-500 might suit the job, as long as the loop length of 20 seconds is sufficient for you.

I use the looper on my Line 6 Pod Go which gives 80 seconds in mono or 40 in stereo. You can select either a simple one button looper or a more complex 6 button control but more than you're looking to spend. Andertons (& I guess others) have a Valeton GP-100 Multi-Effects Processor with a 90 second looper for £99. I've never tried it but the user reviews are good. Might be worth a punt.

Why do bad things mostly seem to happen to people who light up a room when they enter it?

I've not tried one, but these are on offer at the moment
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Multi-Effects- ... s_li_ss_tl
There are other models further down the range for less.
