Sony MDR-M1 - the Good, the Bad and the (very) ugly
Sony MDR-M1 - the Good, the Bad and the (very) ugly
Well, I just treated myself to a pair of these headphones and I’m listening to them now (with a lightning to 3.5mm adapter/DAC) on my iPhone. That’s a Good in itself; they sound a noticeable degree more accurate than most of my other cans, another Good, and are pretty light and very comfy - still more Good.
On to the Bad; there’s very little for me other than the longer cable being nowhere near long enough if I want to work (or play) across the room and suchlike. I really do prefer a 5m cable as a rule, so I’ll need some sort of extension or maybe give up the screw collar on the phones end. As say, not much of a Bad.
Now for the Ugly. The stupid stick-on labels saying, of all things, “Professional”. Can’t have that, especially if folks start thinking I’m claiming to be professional myself, which with a label on each side of my stupid head, they might.
So. Anybody have any idea how to get these labels off? I had a tentative pick at one edge, but failed to make any impression. I stopped short of mutilation and hesitate to try solvents on a plastic base. Normally I’d try cooking oil next, but I have a bad feeling about that, too. I’m beginning to think I’ll have to stick something over the labels, or the whole surface of each cup, or something.
Is there a source of Headphone Art stickers/sleeves/socks? Or a safe solvent? Solar panels? Or … ?

Hugh - it’s a good while since I used any Dymo products; my memory of the metal embosser dad brought home from work occasionally was funny-smelling tape and either a firm bond that eventually went gooey or no bond at at to speak of.
Kwackman - leccy tape will do for the moment; not sure if I should encrust them in jewels or leftover vajazzle …
Hugh doesn’t win, I’m afraid, as it’s perfectly obvious I’m already seriously disturbed … maybe “trying - very trying” would be closer!
Or “l heard that, pardon?” …
Thanks for the suggestions. I’m still not sure how serious this is.

A lot of pro photographers cover up the brand of their camera with electrical tape because it closes off the 'Oh I've got one of them' conversations* from the amateurs, so you could take the same approach?
* Or worse, the 'you should have got a...' ones.

Things have moved on and I use a Brother label printer for all kinds of things. There are a variety of label backings, clear and coloured. All my plugs are labelled as are all the wall-warts. Plus all those myriad types of different USB connectors. Not so good for cables, where cable labeling systems are much better (and won't drop off).
For example:

Ah yes, the old metal and plastic tape embosser with that distinctive typeface. I loved those.
I should have said 'label maker' — mine happens to be made by Dymo, but other manufacturers make them too. Plastic tapes in different sizes and colours, with a heat printer capable of different sizes and typefaces.
Mine hooks up to the computer and can print using any font and character the pc knows about. Really useful tool.

Arp, I’ve only had them a day but think they’re tremendous, plus being a bit more sensitive than most I already have should be a bit better with the Zoom recorders in the field.
I tend to use several sets concurrently (no, not on my head, silly!) so I’m more aware of the differences. But I can see me using these a lot as they’re so bloody comfy for me, my head and my glasses.
Hugh, I do have a Brother labeller and of course it has moved on some way since the (late 1950s?) Dymo apparatus of my childhood. I guess I can get a slogan of my own on there but I suspect it’ll take 2 layers of the Brother tape to cover the original legend. I had determined they are stuck-on labels but presumably my poor experiences over the decades with labelling systems led me to believe they’d come off quite easily. If the replacements I come up with are easily removed, perhaps I should just put our current left- and right-wing “leaders” names on each side.
All suggestions welcome …

I'm intrigued: I've never found vinyl/plastic ear-cups to be comfortable.
How about some stickers to raise a smile or two?
And they're removable.

As long as you don't have a 'final front ear' you'll be fine.

You could put ‘un’ before ‘professional’
This reminds me of the current fashion in black paint covering of car badges. I don’t get it in this case, if I’d spent serious money on a Mercedes or Audi I wouldn’t want the chrome star or rings to be painted black!!!

How abouts a printed label : poofishonal.
I put cute animal stickers on my cans.

Braille to denote left and right on my Superlux Hd681 Evo. 3 vertical dots : Left; Arrow shaped 4 dots : Right. Intuitive. I feel them as I pick them up. Obv I don't even need to look. Imo more brands could take note.

I thought the word “non”
Don’t get me started on cars painted in that flat non-shiny black or the new colours that look like they forget to finish the job and stopped after the primer coat.
Back in the day of cassettes I remember the Sony box of ten when properly stacked could be made to say NOSY
