Hi all,
Just before I update to Logic 11, can I ask whether the 72Gb of extra content can be installed onto an external hard drive?
Cheers, Paul

It used to do on my older intel machine. And if one messed it up like I did there was a youtube on how to get it right again.
I didn't bother when I went to a Mac Studio as I have a big enough (hah!) internal drive.

Of course. Just do it the way Apple recommends rather than mess with Aliases.

I just stumped an Apple tech for an hour about transferring Logic’s content. Seems for the OS I’m on (Sonoma) the external drive has to have permissions turned OFF. Logic transferred everything seamlessly. I will try Logic after I turn permissions back on again as Chronosync gives a warning when copying drive material with permissions off.
As for apple loops? I remember you could put them anywhere. Then you open Logic, open the loop browser and drop the external drive apple loop folder on it. Logic indexes the apple loops and adds them. This worked on my Intel machine. Haven’t tried it yet on the silicon machine.
I’ve noticed the current loops are all caf format. Knowing apple they probably buggered something up if you drop wav or aif files in but fingers crossed they are fine too.

Thanks ManfromGlass,
I’m getting my new SSD tomorrow.
I’ll see if I can implement your advice then.
Btw I’m using Mac OS 15.2 - Sequoia.

Re: Logic 11 - 72 Gb on external drive?
I just checked - Logic moved it’s content to the external drive but not apple loops. I will move them by hand - I found 3 folders on the boot drive with apple loops in them. After they are moved you supposedly you go into Loops and there is a menu item buried there to scan for apple loops and it will scan all your drives and add them.
I will add my third party loops to the external drive too as part of the test.
I will post if I have any issues.
Why am I doing all this? I read a recent posting from Apple that suggested this as loops and content could load faster from an external drive.
I also like this because I will keep a clone of the external drive (I know I should do 2 clones!) Easy enough to restore an external clone than a boot drive. I have heard that the later OSs no longer allow cloning and restoration of boot drives.
