Modular price drop

I've had a few modules on sale for awhile, no interest even at rock bottom prices, so they just go back in storage, I can’t compete with thirty quid new.
The way things are, you could quite easily put a modular system together for around £200 and have more than you need to get up and running, with a home-made case, a cardboard box will do, not luxury, but it’ll do the job.
Those I know that are into modular, myself included look at expensive modules and wonder why people buy them, the most expensive module I bought recently was that TipTop Buchla oscillator, but that wasn’t based on being frugal, that was an "emotional" decision, which even I can become vulnerable to.
I got into the vibe of less is more a long time ago, and if I desperately need some new gear-motivated inspiration I'll look at cheap junk, cheap Chinese stuff from Amazon, Monotrons, the bang for buck from this stuff is good, and very rewarding if you get something out of it.
Buy cheap, and keep it, it certainly isn’t worth selling, and it will still get the job done at the coal face, in my case anyway.

I didn't realise this sort of stuff was as cheap as it is, it's playtime all over again. I once built an ETI 4600, that truley was a labour of love, and I still look on it fondly, I as good as gave it away when synths went out of fashion. I should have known that was a mere blip and that they'd come back with a vengance and sure enough they did

You really ought to watch this YouTube video published a few days ago then, where someone starts to restore a rather poorly ETI4600:

Enjoy!

Thanks for that, there's nothing on telly tonight so now that's my viewing plans sorted out.

Just looking at this YouTube warms the cockles, especially when I noticed his kettle is identical to the one I have in the kitchen

Those Behringer modules, especially the System 100 ones, are regularly reduced on Amazon, if youre patient, you could have one oscillator, a filter, VCA and an S&H/Ring-Mod/LFO, Enveleope Generator for around £100 including PSU.
That’s absolutely crazy.

Wait... What? When did that happen?

I must have missed that memo.

This is interesting, I don’t think any instrument is fashionable now, what dominates? nothing as far as I can hear, and it hasn’t for a very long time.

When Punk came in, guitars we ala mode again and synths were considered passe, being associated with the short lived New Romantic period, although it has to be said, when synths came back, they were here to stay

Although the New Wave movement was bubbling under with any instruments you fancied, even my mate who was in a formative Goth/Punk band used a synth on one of their tracks.

That is crazy, I can easily spend a third of that on a night out, or more than that if I chose to go for a ticket to see Taylor Swift, f I could get one of course

You could buy a Moog Modular for the price of a Taylor Swift ticket.

:bouncy:

And I'd be able to fiddle with it, don't think the Swiftress would let me get that close ;)

Being a guitarist, I already have an effects pedal addiction!

I was going to say that I'm slightly saved in that (unlike effects pedals which are usable on their own) you would need to spend the cost of a medium pedalboard to get all the modules for a functioning synthesiser. Then I noticed Amazon would sell you a CAT for £150* and (CV/trig compatibility issues aside) just patch in some extra modules at your leisure.

*That's 'the price of two cups of coffee' according to Josh Scott who runs the JHS pedal company. A phrase he frequently uses to justify pedal purchases which I think we need to introduce to the Eurorack community.

What coffee shops do you visit? :)
I'd start with the Behringer System 100, a 110 module, plus a Behringer rack and PSU for around £100, and add to it, or get a Neutron and use that as a base, great value for money.

Being home-based I don't get to go to many coffee shops, so I get my fix via mail order from a coffee shop on Old Compton Street in Soho. This is our house blend if you visit chez Arkie

Have you been to the coffee man in Camden, opposite Guitar Guitar?
We stopped coffee a few weeks back, but do Joy the occasional cup here, we give coffee shops a miss though, on the whole just generic flavourless rubbish.
