Neumann KH120 Error Code ID?
Neumann KH120 Error Code ID?
Hey folks, one of my KH120s stopped working today; it has starting beeping at consistent intervals with the power LED and logo flashing in unison with the beep. The unit wont pass audio. When I power down the intervals slow down and stop after 30 seconds. Anyone here have an idea as to what error code this might be? Video demo below.

I'd drop their support team a line. They're not always the quickest to respond but they do generally get back to you.

That was my first port of call but I have sessions starting this week that rule out shipping aboard, as I would need to. Basically I'm trying to research as much as I can before handing over to a trusted local tech in order to save time. The more info I can get for them the better. Thanks for your reply.

What colour is the logo flashing in? The google drive link doesn't work for me.
Page 12 of the manual has the logo colour codes. Red (fast) is a boot-up error, which could be corrupt firmware or a chip failure somewhere.
I don't know if the speaker needs to be fully booted before you can try re-loading the latest firmware.

Reliably fallible.

So it's flashing red as far as I can tell. Try the link below, I think it will work:

This is the KH120A, not the D with the digital input. My speakers issue is only addressed for the digital version of the speaker in the troubleshooting section of the manual. The diagram breakdown of the speaker mentions that it may be speaker protection kicking in when this happens in the Analogue version of the speaker.

I presume you've found other references to this happening on other KH120As on the web. Haven't found any answers apart from taking it to a service centre.
Reliably fallible.

Rep of Ireland I'm afraid! A friend may have found the issue (short between two pins of a pair of IC's). Doing my best to avoid sending them to one of Neumanns repair centres as the designated one for Ireland is in the UK, which means import tax and export etc. Thanks for your replies.

How odd, given that they are made in a factory in Ireland!

I'm not sure import/export duties apply to something sent for repair then returned to sender. If you take an instrument to another country on tour/hols there is no duty to pay as long as you bring it back with you when you return home?
That's not to say sending it abroad for repair is not a PITA mind you...

Re: Neumann KH120 Error Code ID?
The numpties in Ireland customs are pedantic about customs declaration codes and anything being returned to the republic must have an absolutely accurate customs declaration with the correct code or it'll be returned to the sender. This has become a nightmare for people posting calendars, clothing and books as the post office usually just puts the item description and approx price on the sticker. This will not suffice, you must have the exact correct code as well.
So if you do get anything shipped for repair, make certain that the repairer is aware of this. Or do as many people now do and have it returned to a Northern Ireland address then sent down.

I recently returned a Thorens turntable to Germany for repair from the UK and no duties were paid either way. It was simply labelled as tax paid on the invoices. Spent a while in customs though but it cleared okay.

Why do bad things mostly seem to happen to people who light up a room when they enter it?

It's a cluster****! Our friends abroad seem to me to be doing what they have always done (and we didn't) which is apply regulations when it suits them or they can be arsed.
Last year I sent a pair of Lewitt mics to son in France. Value £143 and so he should have been asked to pay duty. Just turned up in his post box like everything else.
Dave.
