What gear ?
What gear ?
I am just about to equip my new studio.
I have ordered an izradar 6 .
What other gear do I need ?
Ie Mixer outboard etc.
I'm not a beginner and sound quality is my goal.
I will probably link the radar to logic pro x.

Re: What gear ?
Hi, welcome to the forum.
We're going to need a lot more information before we can offer any advice I'm afraid.
What kind of sources are you recording? How many simultaneously?
Are you recording on location or in a studio?
Why use an IZ RADAR box if you're then going to move into Logic?
Etc. etc.
Lots more details needed please.

Re: What gear ?
You must know what you’re doing, if you’ve ordered a RADAR, but I’m surprised you have got that far, and not specified the rest of the gear.
As Drew said, much more info needed.

Nothing in Trauma Kid's post stands up to any kind of logical scrutiny...
But just in case, I'd recommend a 72 channel Neve 88RS console....

But why would you use a budget console with a lovely recorder like that?

Re: What gear ?
If the Mini-8 you have is anything like the one I had, I'd suggest at least an AF test set, soldering iron, an RS account, fire extinguisher and hammer!
Nice sounding thing when it works though.

And a good supply of capacitors to replace all the tantalums that have gone short circuit (or at least that was always the problem with the one that I used to look after).

Mr T Kid has not been back to the SOS site since posting his query. I guess he's busy building his new studio...

I’m the fire extinguisher king, I mistakenly ordered the wrong size, now I have this giant CO2 extinguisher that looks like a flame thrower.
Looks cool though, trouble is I can hardly lift it.

OK Guys ! You need more information
I have been attracted to the iz radar for a long time as it seems a more logical workload and claims a better sound.
I am old school and like the idea of it working like an old 24 track tape machine.
I have some learning difficulties !
The thought of the learning curve in Logic scares me to death. But it's a cheap add on as I learn.
I have owned 8 track tape machines in the past.
I would require the minimum of hardware to start whilst I build my equipment list.
I will be recording a five piece band sometimes and also building tracks mostly using a drum programme easy drummer 3 etc and then adding live bass guitar keys , and then replacing parts as necessary.
Ie building up songs in stages. If this makes sense.
This is in a recording studio which I am currently building with a separate control room.
I have a remaining budget of around 20k max.
What mixing desk would you recommend if I need one at all ? I have some outboard stuff which I can slowly upgrade if needed. I have a selection of mics
A compressor and effects units.
Go ahead and ask me more questions.

Re: What gear ?
My brain is struggling to comprehend how you could conclude that Radar was the way to go without knowing whether or not you need a mixer to go with it.
But that's my problem...
You could save yourself a few quid and use Logic much like you would Radar.
Either way, you're gonna need preamps. Either in mixer or rack form.
And cables to connect those preamps to Radar's converters, etc etc.
Or forget Radar, get an audio interface (which has preamps and converters built in) and connect it to the computer that's running Logic.
I once considered going down the Radar route but ultimately decided that the money would be better spent on beer. And cables...
Hope this helps...

I've recorded on RADAR, take my word for it, it's good, have you heard it? you need to check it out and see if it’s worth it for you. I would only go this route if I was going the traditional route of main mixer plus a separate recorder, maybe transfer to a computer for editing and mastering. Although the last time I was involved you can only export mono files such as a stereo recording comprising tracks 1/2 are exported as two separate mono files, you have to line them up in your computer, but they may have updated all that now, it's been a long time since I recorded on one.
RADAR has very good converters, exceptional, very smooth and very "realistic" it just sounds "right"
That’s all I can say, and many esteemed artists still use RADAR today.

A Nespresso Delonghi and a paddling pool.
For the I have a boiling pan that'll do the job and for the paddling pool I can sit with my feet in the bath, never let it be said that I'm not resourceful and inclined to buy things I don't need with money I haven't got.

It's a great machine, but seriously expensive and to realise its potential quality you're going to need high quality supporting equipment and a good workflow plan.
I have some learning difficulties !
In which case, and with all due respect, I don't think a forum is the best place to work out what you need.
I would strongly recommend you find someone knowledgeable and local to you — perhaps someone at the retailer you purchased the Radar system from? That way, they can help you work out a plan in real time, responding directly to your input and queries. Trying to do that over a forum is going to be incredibly tedious and slow, and full of misunderstandings and mis-directions.
