Acoustic Guitar Repairs In London

Post by Jathon Delsy »

I've just given my nice Yamaha classical guitar a nasty knock.
Can anyone recommend a repair service in London?
Thanks.

Might be worth checking with the Yamaha shop to see if they have someone they recommend?

Charlie Chandler's in Hampton Wick/Kingston is the only place I definitely know of, though there will be quite a few.

I know there used to be a couple of places in Denmark Street, but that was a while ago and I can't remember any details.

What sort of damage have you done?

I knocked the front side of the body with a big stick. Because I'm stupid and clumsy and forgetful.
About 1 cm of the nice binding has gone, and there are a few cracks in the front of the body and a few shards sticking out. The damage is ugly but superficial. I just played the instrument and it felt and sounded fine. But I do want it repaired.

Pop into Regent Sound on Denmark Street and ask.

There's an excellent repairer based in the same building that they use.

Charlie Chandlers CCGX worked on my old Yamaha acoustic recently and it’s better than it’s ever been. Superb work and great service, highly recommended.

Knight Guitars out in Addlestone did a great job on my acoustic.

I'm not sure they're still there if you're thinking about the female luthier (though they still do have a workshop). Luthier's Corner was in Denmark Street but has moved out to east London. http://luthierscorner.co.uk/old_site/Lu ... ntact.html

Though their website needs an update!

I saw a very nice old Gibson J45 there a couple of years ago that had a very nicely done repair. I didn't get more details beyond them explaining it was done by a repair man working in the same building. Hence my suggestion .

Fair enough! I know the woman got featured in at least one of the UK guitar magazines, so I thought of her first.
