The band my son plays bass in has just purchased a Behringer X2442USB mixer.
The mixer has 8 Direct Outs and I am pretty sure, pretty soon he will be asking about recording those 8 discrete outs!
I don't think that Zoom interface has been under the SoS ruler or I think I would remember? Is anything known?
For £180 it looks very good and Zoom kit generally get a good rep'.
Dave.

And when he does you can point out that the hive mine here suggested he got them to buy an XR18 which has multitracking over USB built in (and then you are officially allowed to look smug)

Well I would Sam but I am sure this Behrry was not his idea.
Prior to the X16/18 debacle Steve and I had pretty much fixed on a Soundcraft mixer with tunable mid EQ. I am not knocking Behringer kit, often very good for the money and I have/have had some myself but I think the Soundcraft would have been a cut above?
Dave.

The UAC-8 is a discontinued product, which is why the very last ones are going for less than half the previous price. It is a USB3 interface, so any computer used for recording will need a USB3 port or it won't play ball. I can't remember whether your son has an older or newer PC.
Reliably fallible.

It has 3.0 Wonks...shoot! Even my W7 HP OS dated Oct 2015 has one USB 3.0 port!
There seems to be very little to nothing like that? 8 line inputs and outputs on USB. There was an ESI product but that seems to have sunk without trace.
Dave.

Maybe I was unlucky, but after a couple of aborted attempts with Soundcraft mixers, I came to the conclusion that things weren’t up to what they used to be, regarding reliability, and build quality.
I'd be looking at Mackie, Allen&Heath, the latter definitely being a "cut above"

To get enough mic inputs the ZEDs would have been way beyond budget. They needed a minimum of 5. I don't know if the lady on flute sings but she would be bloody clever to do that AND play! Still brings the input count to 6 and so 8 makes sense. Now they have 10 I can see the drummer wanting to "get clever" with recording!
Dave.
Re: Zoom UAC-8-8
Audient EVO 16 is about twice the price but with some fancier tech and a bit more expandability (up to 24 inputs).
If you don't think that'll be needed then maybe something like a Tascam US16x08. Can also double up as a standalone 8-channel pre-amp if they want to press some more of those mixer channels into use.
