Do you know the value of Nassau solder?
Do you know the value of Nassau solder?
I've got some reels of Nassau solder that I'm trying to find the value of. Looked online and saw wide variations for this. Thought I'd check with folks in the forum that might know about this. It was in with my Dad's things with a Weller WCTP soldering station. I've got 5 pound reel of Nassau Pedigree steering core solder, a Nassau Pedigree white Water Rosin and an old can of Allen Soldering Paste. Any info on value and use would be appreciated. Trying to figure out what to do with it.

I think you mean STEARINE CORE. This is a specialist type of solder used only on lead-based products like batteries and some kinds of underground cable sheath. The core is acidic which makes this entirely the wrong product for electronics work!
But with rather specialised S/H products like these, the value is determined entirely by the buyer... if you can find one. So I'd recommend putting it on ebay and see what the market comes up with.

Thank you Hugh. My Dad was quite the handyman in all things but I know nothing about such things. Very helpful information. Appreciate the response back.

Nassau Solder was the brand used by Western Electric.
About 20-22 years ago there was a major run on ebay by mainly Asian audiophiles for the stuff- people were getting hundreds of dollars a pound.
As I remember, it petered out about as fast as it started. People quickly realized Nassau Solder wasn't as rare as they thought it was.
Since the Bell System also used it, there was tons of it floating around in basements and garages all over the USA from installers taking the stuff home.
It certainly sells for more than an equivalent roll of vintage Kester or Multicore, but it goes for nowhere near the prices it was selling for in 2004.
