Yes! A dyed -in-the-wool Windows person intruding in macland.
I have a USB DVD player/burner which is PlugnPlay with my W10 and W7 laptops. Can I expect it to work just as easily with a mac?
I am sure the suppliers will say so but then "they would say that...."!
I want to give it to a neighbour and she will not have any idea of sorting "drivers" and suchwhich and naturally I would not be of any use!
Dave.

Re: USB DVD
You would need to try it to be sure but I don't see why not.

My experience, FWIW, is definitely yes. Over the years I've used several DVD burners and a Blu-ray burner with my Macs and have never had any problems. They were none of them marketed exclusively for Macs. And this is what I'd expect because DVD and Blu-ray drives are normally class compliant devices and as such don't need specific drivers.

I bought a cheapy USB DVD drive ages ago for a PC with a poorly drive.
I have successfully used it on my MacBook too.
These things are generally class compliant, so the OS will automatically know how to deal with them.

Thank you Rich. I have the unit now and the booklet does indeed say a mac should just find it. I shall be popping over the road with it within the hour. Will keep yous all posted!
