Best place to sell semi-modulars / eurorack?
Best place to sell semi-modulars / eurorack?
I'm getting rid of some stuff that I'm just never using - a couple of Moog semi-modulars and some eurorack modules. Where's the most vibrant marketplace for these kind of things? I'll post in the classifieds here of course, but is eBay a good option for this as well, or are there better specialist options? I'm not on any synth forums- I assume there are some decent ones with a healthy marketplace, as Basschat is to bassists?!

Thanks Drew. I haven’t used Reverb much- it always seems full of overpriced stuff with international shipping when I look!

Reverb is good if you're realistic about price but they do take a cut, around 10% if I recall. eBay is now free for private sellers because they shake down buyers for "protection" instead. This works out about the same in practice. Either way it costs you nothing to list on both platforms, but be aware with eBay that if a buyer meets your "buy it now" price or any offer you make, then the transaction is binding immediately. Not sure with reverb if there's a confirmation step, I can't recall.
eBay does of course give you the option of auctioning an item. However this is only usually a good idea if you know a bunch of people are gonna fight over something which is not always the case.

I used to use eBay a lot. Not to make money, but I would often buy stuff o a whim, and if I got it at the right price, I'd be reasonably confident that I'd get my money back if I decided the item wasn't for me.
But eBay these days is like pulling teeth, they are making the process more and more convoluted and want more and more info (to sell to ChatGPT no doubt)
They were free for a while, after all that 15% commission +PayPal commission, now Buyer Protrection has snuk in, I had something listed at £40, I looked at the listing and now it's £42.50, eBay's whack was teetering towards 20%, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. They went free and yep, I started using it again, but knew that this wouldn't last
But they have gone back to charging again now, or last time I looked they had. They change their mind more times than Trump changes tariffs. It used to be so easy, not any more. It's easier to buy stuff though!

I’ve sold on ebay, Reverb, Sweetwater Gear Exchange, and Craigslist.
Ugh, I share your thoughts on ebay - they’ve ruined the platform for both buyers and sellers. I only look there for obscure things I don’t find anywhere else, and their greed had made it impossible to breakeven between fees and shipping on items under $30.
I use CL for things that I don’t want to ship (e.g., drum set, ADAT). It’s limited to local buyers, so it’s no help if you’re outside a large metro area. I’m not on FB but some folks use FB marketplace similarly. CL is cash, no fees.
I’ve bought and sold on Reverb, with good results. Commission is reasonable and it has the biggest selection (breadth and depth). Reasanably priced stuff will sell quickly. There’s a lot on there that is overpriced; Reverb has good buying guide and prices for sold items, which is really helpful.
But my fave is SWGX. Their commission is 7.5%, which is fine if I am looking for cash. There’s is less traffic but good buyers and sellers. If you are selling to simply flip your gear to buy something new, SW waives the commission and gives you an e-gift card for the amount of your sale. Those are only good on their new (and demo and b-stock and clearance stuff in the store - not to buy used stuff), so it is a great no-commission savings plan as far as i’m concerned.
I’ve never had a bad transaction on SWGX. There are int’l buyers and sellers, and you can limit where you want to buy from and sell to.
YMMV, good luck!

Re: Best place to sell semi-modulars / eurorack?
I just had a look at SWGE and I am envious of the amount of gear there is for sale in the US. However what does surprise me are the higher asking prices compared to the price of used gear here in the UK, the prices here are almost half the asking prices shown in SWGE
Re: Best place to sell semi-modulars / eurorack?
Thanks, I didn't know that asking prices are so much higher than elsewhere.
A number of SWGX seller are open to offers, and if the gear has been listed a long time, those ""must have been dreaming" asking prices can come down quickly.

Definitely Modwiggler, and Modular Grid, without a doubt, I’ve always sold unwanted modules on those two within a few days.
