Already the Proms are upon us and again and again, new performers come through and the range of music they now present in the Proms is becoming ever more diverse, and some of it is impressive stuff. And there is something about seeing an orchestra going at it full tilt. One of the young artists, representing the more diverse performers, diverse in the sense of it being music from different genres, not diverse in the sense of racial diversity, the performer was leader of a band, and their music had been chosen to feature in the Proms, to the accompaniment of a full orchestra, and the young man said at first, he was sceptical, but went along with it, as it was the arranger in the orchestra had seen the band art Glastonbury, liked the music and thought to himself, "This music lends itself to and arrangement for orchestra" then the young performer went on to say "I have played in bands, with full on sound system, but the feeling I got from having a full orchestra behind me was awesome, the power of it was amazing, even if I'd not heard the music playing, I could feel it at my back and more than that, when I was playing my music I turned around and looked the members of the orchestra, all in their standard orchestra suits and dresses have me spellbound, all of them, all grooving away to my tune was such an unbelieveable experience I shall treasure" The way the explained was right on the money.
IN another interview, there was one of the sound engineers, who also was playing at the Proms, in the morning he was part of a team that was setting up a 100+ mikes, then rushing down to another part of the building to rehearse for a piece he was playing in later. "I'm too busy to get stressed, I don't even have time to trump" he said!
I watched a violinist from Georgia, yes I know I should remember the name, but anyway, she played with the vigour and intensity of some wildish thrash metal lead guitarist, when she hit the last note of a particularly tortuous demanding piece by Sibelius, her, the player's expression and posture would have made any led guitarist's gyrations look flaccid in comparison - she was pure joy to watch, but then when she took a bow, she seemed to transform in the most humble and grateful of people, she was thanking the audience for liking her! Well, I suppose we can all assimilate with that to a greater or lesser extent.
Another point made, which we can assimilate with too, is that music crosses all borders, it is one of the characteristics of music, I have sat in with musicians from all over the globe, ok, for the most part casual jam sessions, but the over riding sentiment was - we're all the same. If only people would pick-up a guitar(or whatever) instead of a gun
OK I am forgetting melodramatic now, time to watch the Proms which I recorded last night, which features a young jazz singer who is presently enchanting people with her pure tones and amazing range. I am sending out an SOS people, turn off the news and watch the Proms, if only to satisfy the soul
Prom time again, after this only so many shopping days to Christmas!

One of the (actually the only one) most important musical events I attended in the past 15 years was a concert of music by Varese, at the Royal Festival Hall, by a full orchestra, who I can't remember right now, but it was a highlight of my life, truly mind blowing, the dynamic range of a full symphony orchestra is an experience to behold, the dynamics and tonal richness of acoustic instruments is unmatched.

Yep, that was it, don't you get bored with being right all the time? if so, I know how you feel

I've only been to the Proms once. I think it was 1996. I had planned to go in 2020 to hear Mitsuko Uchida play Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. Then the Great Plague happened.
