interested in this feature of the eventide omnipressor, are there other compressors out there that can do this? thanks

You could try Fuse Audio Labs VCE-118 Dynamic Range Enhancer, which has very useful expansion functions.

Take a look at Reaper's General Dynamics (which should also be available to users of other DAWs as part of the ReaPlugs package). This allows you to define your own compression/expansion characteristics.
