I'm thinking about purchasing a pair of Adam audio a8h monitors for my home studio but was wondering if it would be an overkill for my room size..
Room size: 13ft L...9 1/2ft w...8ft h
My listening space would about 3ft away...
Any help would be appreciated
Adam Audio A8H?
Re: Adam Audio A8H?
These are fairly large monitors and Adam class them as 'midfield'. So designed to be further away than your nominal 3' (maybe 6 feet). So positioning them in an equilateral triangle with them 3' (or at least the tweeters) from each other might not leave much room for your computer monitor. They will need full support, so have you allowed for suitable stands in your design?
Also in a room that size, the bass extension of the Adams could cause more issues with bass modes than benefits unless you have a lot of acoustic treatment, especially bass traps. The built-in Sonarworks room correction can only do so much to make things better. It's good for additive notes, but can do little for subtractive ones.
I'd say that you should probably go for speakers that are better suited for nearfield use, but that you could probably make the A8H work with a lot of room treatment. It's hard to say too much without having the full picture of everything that's going in the room and it's exact position.

Reliably fallible.

Won't matter unless you have some room treatment.
Re: Adam Audio A8H?
Room treatment being a given, the A8H would be fine if you want a kick A sound I think but for best accuracy at that sort of price the Neumann KH120 would be my suggestion. If you wanted the extra SPL and trouser flapping you could add their excellent sub woofer later (after mucho bass trapping of course!)
I had considered the midfield Adams but now am saving for the KH150s. My room is bigger than yours and I shall be 2m away from the speakers.
Dave.

+1 for the room treatment first - but I've been looking at these lately for my room (which is of very similar dimensions).

Possibly slightly overkill... but not desperately so.
I listen to Neumann KH310s at slightly over 3 feet distance. They have a 7-inch bass driver rather than the 8-inch of the ADAMs, but are otherwise quite similar.
That arrangement of tweeter over midrange alongside woofer helps to keep the acoustic centre pretty compact so you can listen from a closer distance and still get a reasonably well-formed and stable stereo image. But I certainly wouldn't go any bigger, and if you can get further away from the speakers so much the better.
And as others have pointed out, everything rests on the quality and effectiveness of the acoustic treatment...

Re: Adam Audio A8H?
Thanks for the reply...I do have money set aside for acoustic treatment but as of right now I only have 10lb acoustic blankets surrounding all walls.. my studio desk has a built in base on each side for monitor placement...on my ceiling I have a led cloud ceiling so I wouldn't be able to acoustically treat the ceiling..If I do purchase the adam monitors I could probably get them to sit 2ft away from the side walls...I know I have to acoustically treat the room before purchasing monitors but as of right now i have no monitors..I've been mixing on headphones..so my thought process is i rather have monitors instead of no monitors lol..but I do want the best mixing environment I could squeeze out of my room ..I have just been trying to avoid the whole acoustic treatment part of it..it just sounds so confusing I wouldn't know where to start

There's a ton of stuff here;

I started with bass traps first - quick wins to begin with. It gets harder to make a difference the more you do, so low hanging fruit first - which for me was controlling the low and low mid frequencies first. You'll need some monitors to be able to do it, and a reference track that you know inside out. A thorough read of the articles above will be really worth the time. Every room has it's own foibles, so good luck!

80% of the improvement is in the first few panels, specifically the mirror points on the side and rear walls and on the ceiling (there must be a way to do something without compromising your lighting, some kind of diffusion maybe or several narrow panels a few inches wide suspended between the rows of LEDs?) and a panel between the monitors on the front wall.
