Windows 10.end support
Re: Windows 10.end support
Or Windows+Shift+S then drag to size if you just want to get part of the screen.

That hasn't changed for many many years. Alt-PrintScreen for the active window or just the PrintScreen button if you want full control over the area to be grabbed.
Yup, got that bit it was when I went to Paint 3D that the trouble started.
I shall have another look but W11 for me is like dressing a wound. You know you have got to get on with it but keep putting it off!
Dave.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

Though, from what I've read in the last couple of days, that article is a little out of date because you can now join the Windows 10 extended support program without a Microsoft account which gives you another year of support.

Does anyone have good experiences with going from windows 10 to windows 11 on a non supported pc, using it for pro audio?

We've had a couple of computers in this house that weren't officially supported but came with 11 installed by their refurbishers. I have also upgraded my living room computer from 10 to 11 using Rufus. The living room computer is mainly used for stereo recording but I've used it to do 24 track mixes with no problems.
Now that I'm used to it and have tweaked a few settings, I'd say that 11 is better than 10.

None for me and I've done it to three computers. It extended their working life for another couple of years and then other issues caused their replacement.
Reliably fallible.

I used an online guide similar to this one
https://theideaplace.net/using-rufus-to ... -hardware/
I found that I had to enable UEFI on my computer - fortunately my lad went through a phase of trying to write his own operating system a couple of years ago so he was very familiar with UEFI.
While I made a backup of my Windows 10 system disk as a precaution, I found that the Win 11 installation kept just about all of my programs and settings.

My WIndows 10 pc is now showing the time as 04.10am when it is in fact 12.29
Re: Windows 10.end support
I use Meinberg NTP, (Network Time Protocol), for syncing my PCs and it will work fine on Win 10.

Re: Windows 10.end support
Is that the round cmos battery ? I wonder if it's causing issues with it stalling a few times at boot up.
Re: Windows 10.end support
Yes, it is very likely to be the cause of your boot problems. If a BIOS value has been corrupted then it could cause all kinds of strange behaviour. If the battery voltage is marginal then not all memory locations would be affected so you may not have noticed the problem initially by looking in the BIOS.

Re: Windows 10.end support
Then best thing about swapping our the CMOS battery is that it is and easy change to make and an inexpensive one, and the results of swapping it out are instant and it then factors out/in one of the possible causes of a fault, you're taking an unknown out of the equation.
Another easy check is to make sure all cables are correctly seated. When experimenting it is important to make sure every possible potential cause of trouble is attended too. It is amazing how computers can be so finnicky at times, but given the complexity, it sometimes surprises me that they work at all
