Suggested sync agencies

I am thinking of trying to get on the books of a decent sync agency, does anyone have any experience they could share, that might help me in this regard ?

There doesn't seem to be so many active composers on here these days. The only people that I've had any experience of has been Sentric who seem to offer plenty of opportunities but the artist needs to actually put their work forward for each opportunity so there is a bit more work involved.

I was waiting for someone more knowledgeable to pipe up but in the absence of anyone clever...

The only legit one that I have looked into (a couple of years ago) was Sentric https://www.sentric.com/sync
There are a lot of scammers in this area but these guys appear to be the genuine article - though at the time I did see a fair number of less-than-flattering reviews about them.
But you have to take them with a pinch of salt as a lot of them were just along the lines of "These guys never placed any of my music," which isn't necessarily a 'them' problem... ;)

EDIT - Clever person beat me to it!

I was going to ask if where you were located but I hope that doesn’t matter any more.
I was looking as well a few years back but the agencies libraries were huge, the competition fierce and I did not want to spend my days writing tracks that had a slim chance of ending up in a movie or tv show or worse. And being older and stubborn, the idea of giving up all the publishing rubbed me the wrong way.
I have a friend who runs the Canadian arm of one of the biggest north american ones and she hooked me up with their website. They have a monstrous collection of tracks and with a few exceptions of brilliant writing, most of the tracks I auditioned were kinda lame. Perhaps a sign that editors and too many producers have no imagination and just want filler material for cheap.
Sorry to be so negative but you may have better luck.
I know in N America there are a few agencies who are very aggressive in trying to pitch their content to productions. The people you want to speak to there are well insulated from general submission queries and they have very specific criteria for submitting ex: no links to soundcloud, your website, wav or MP3 prefs etc etc.

So I have started the process of getting my content online with streaming services, in particular "Route Note" just wondered if anyone has any experience with them, there seemed to be so many to choose from, but Route Note seemed a good fit, we shall see..

Sentric could be a good fit provided that:

1. Your music is what their client base wants
2. You don't expect your works to attract any performance royalties that haven't been as a direct result of Sentric.

This is based on my direct experience with a couple of projects I have been involved with and also from other musicians I know who have used Sentric.

First off as far as I can tell for the majority of artists signed up with Sentric they do not actively promote the works. They simply make them available to their client base, so unless you are very lucky there is a high chance that you will never earn anything directly from being with them.

Also if your music has vocals your will need to also provide instrumental versions, as a lot of the tracks that get placed via Sentric are for background music where singing will get in the way of voice-overs etc.

Last time I looked a lot of the music being placed by Sentric (or at least all that I knew had come via their service) was for UK day-time TV. If that is still the case then it might be a good idea to spend some time watching the programs in question to get a feel for what styles of music are currently popular in these applications.

Also last time I looked you could assign your music on a track-by-track basis. Hopefully this is still possible because Sentric will take their cut (20% at the time) of all the performance royalties they earn and not just those as a result of being with Sentric. This is the main problem I have encountered with their service. In my experience the additional royalties generated from being used on a couple of day-time TV programs did not cover the royalties lost from other sources due to Sentric taking their cut. Also when we decided to remove our songs from Sentric's service it took ages for their interest to be "de-registered" by the PRS.

If I was considering placing some of my music with Sentric again I would be producing special versions of the songs, with slightly different titles to the ones that were being performed live and recorded for general public consumption as well as the instrumental versions, so that Sentric only took their royalty cut from those versions that had been placed with them.
