The perfect solution for Tony's basement!
And yes, that really is one heck of a hits list for any console! Quite some pedigree.
Do you think he's replaced it with a Behringer interface and a couple of ada8200s?

It would make a fantastic laptop stand for sure
Re: Legendary mixing desk behind hits for George Michael and Seal goes on sale
I don’t think it would actually fit into mine.

Worthless without someone who knows what they are doing sitting behind it.

Obviously you’d need a new door, ideally one which lots of famous and talented people had previously walked through.

I don't have the room but I'll gladly make room for it. Me and Mrs Endi can always sleep on the sofa, and then I can fit it in the bedroom where the bed is (was).

You really wouldn't want the electricity bill for this desk. Especially as once they've been switched on and the circuits have stabilised they need to stay switched on.

But you could sleep under it and you wouldn't need to pay for any other heating in your house...

The money I save on heating means eventually it pays for itself! I'd be an irresponsible father and husband if I don't buy it!

My college took us on a tour of Sarm West back in the late 90’s. Must have stood next to that very desk!

Exactly! If it was actually useful nowadays I'd guess that its original owner would have kept it. Something like that is a halfway house between the all analogue studio and the digital studio that we have today. It was great in its time but we have better ways to achieve the same thing now.
If you want that sound then you also need the Fairlight to go with it as well as the Studer tape machines.

And if they were selling Trevor Horn as well it might be worth buying.

It is interesting to compare songs before and after he got hold of them. Here's the original of Tears Are Not Enough by ABC

and here's the Trevor Horn version

...or Steve Lipson.
Re: Legendary mixing desk behind hits for George Michael and Seal goes on sale
Speaking of Steve Lipson as I was, does anybody remember this when it was first broadcast?
I certainly do.
That desk does seem awfully familiar too.

Interesting indeed! Just on my laptop speakers there's a huge difference, but I miss something about the low end groove on the original.

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.
Re: Legendary mixing desk behind hits for George Michael and Seal goes on sale
I think James is right about this desk, the automation and onboard computer will be an unnecessary nightmare, if it were a classic Neve, that’s another matter, and it would be a lot more expensive.

The pre-Trevor Horn version sounds like a demo to me.
What is more amazing is that a year earlier they sounded like this:

Re: Legendary mixing desk behind hits for George Michael and Seal goes on sale
This desk opened up a new world of possibilities to those capable of recognising them at the time, if I had it now it would make no difference to me whatsoever, it’s definitely of it’s time, and of the people of the time.
