Mapping audio preferences to streamdeck?

Post by MarkOne »

I'd like to add a button on my streamdeck that automatically opens Preferences > Sound.

I can see how to add Preferences to a key, but not the next step to choose the sound preferences menu.

Any gurus out there can point me in the right direction, or am I asking too much?

Use a utility like Keyboard Maestro to build a macro to do what you want that can then be linked to a command triggered by StreamDeck.

Create a Website button and give it this URL:
ms-settings:sound

All well and good if your OS comes out of Redmond and not Cupertino. ;)

You can get straight to the Sound tab in System Preferences/Setting by holding Option and pressing any of the volume keys (F8, F9, F10, I believe?), so you should be able to achieve it by adding any of those as a keystroke command.

It's F10, 11 or 12 on my Mac.

Thanks yes Option/F10, 11 or 12.

Many thanks!

My problem is when you assign the hot key, it detects the Option key fine, but pressing any of the F keys Mac OS performs that command, because the OS is always listening for it so the Stream Deck software never sees the key to map it :(

I'm sure there must be a way.

If you take a look in System Settings/Preferences>Keyboard, there should be a button named Keyboard Shortcuts. Click that, go to the Function Keys tab, and there's a slider that lets you change the F keys into 'normal' function keys rather than defaulting to their macOS shortcuts.

Toggle that on, and then try making a Stream Deck shortcut for Fn+Option+F10.

It might be a pain to get used to depending on how much you use the shortcut keys, but it should work!
