Re: Ho-Hum
Until a few years ago I used to volunteer at a homeless shelter where homeless people could go and get a free Christmas Dinner, and a fine one too I should add. As well as help out make the dinner, myself and other volunteers would take gifts, and maybe even a donation.
And after having done my chores, along with other volunteers, there was a Christmas Dinner for us too, well, it'd be rude to refuse! So I sat at a table where there was a spare chair, along with people who one has to say, looked a bit ragged and forlorn(I'm hardly what you'd call a dapper dresser, I dress for comfort not for looks) - well of course, they were homeless, living on the streets, people with 'issues' etc
But anyway I tucked in and then a camera and microphone appeared before me and it was Sky TV (fame at last!) and the presenter, who hardly give you time to speak, said to camera, and here we have one of the poor homeless people, who probably spent last night in the freezing cold, huddled up in a shop doorway, having to watch all the people out celebrating christmas whilst I looked on facing another night in the cold.........etc
Finally she asked me, something inane like "And are you enjoying your Christmas Dinner here at the charity? given by these kind people here?" to which I could only reply "Well I should think so, I helped make it and dish it up, I'm not homeless, I have a house and a car and a job - I'm volunteering here"
But what sort of irked me was, there I was in my best Christmags togs, complete with Christmas Pullover, yet she thought I looked like a tramp. Note to self, look in the mirror before I go out to a social function

Re: Ho-Hum
Whilst not wanting to appear patronising, I like to think myself as a charitable person, charitable in the sense that I see us all as equals, and we all have something to share, if only our story. But on many an occasion, I might have found myself breaking bread with someone whose fortunes have been changed almost over night, from the most comfortable and secure of circumstances to wretched poverty, insecurity and most upsetting, no sign of a chance coming their way, despite they might have been qualified, experienced and skillful professionals. Accountants, barristers........yes, homeless! Homelessness is not exclusive to those that were born on the 'wrong side of the tracks'
Anyway, I don't want to be morose so happy, contented and peaceful New Year to one and all

I greatly appreciate the favourable comments I got to my original post, but am now considerably miffed at the way the topic has been hijacked

Seemingly no longer an 'elderly'.
Now a 'Senior'. Is that promotion?
