I've been out for three hours this afternoon and four hours this evening, so I've had to skip a day.

However, yesterday's offering was still a little unfinished at 3am this morning, so I used today's spare hours to finish it off:

Day 13, https://audio.com/don-music/audio/call-to-adventure-129

The SoundForce sample modules are very good and a steal at the price they are going for!

I do prefer the all-analogue 808 modules I have, but I'm a sucker for Linn Drums.

This track stopped after 8 seconds ( on a Mac)
It was a great 8 seconds though!

Thanks Davy! There seems to be an intermittent issue with Macs and the HTML audio element for some clients. I've got an alternative audio player I'm going to deploy when I get time but in the meantime a direct link to the audio is here.

I've been listening to a lot of Jarre in the last few days, this almost feels like an extension of that!

How can such a personable guy produce such a menacing piece? :D (That's a compliment by the way!)

I'm rather enjoying the chip tune elements to your pieces. :)

Thanks! It's a rather long-scale project I've been working on.

The clue is in the title - the world is indeed going through some Dark Times, and I'm thankful that I can channel my feelings into something creative, rather than dwell on them too much :smirk:

We're halfway through and I'd like to throw out a couple of thoughts from my perspective!

Doing Jamuary is a relentless process. It's easy to chuck a mix of some nice noises over the fence and call it done but that isn't my objective even though it happens more than I'd like. Sometimes I have what seems like a good idea in my head but the execution turns out to either be tricky or to realise it would take longer than a Jamuary session permits so I post something that represents the point I got to it on the day knowing that a couple of weeks more work might make it a reasonable demo of the original idea.

Some days I boot up the DAW and sit there like a lemon fiddling with various improvs and realising that they're in the same rut as my 'goto' noodles which leaves me adrift. On those days, occasionally, I've come up with something completely different that I rather like but it's equally likely I'll end up with a 'meh' track.

After 14 days (albeit with a weekend missed due to life commitments) it's getting to that point where I'm having to work to keep up the momentum. I'm now prototyping stuff that's a bit "same-y" but for me that's the most valuable part of the project as it encourages me to escape those rails.

It's difficult (and sometimes stressful) but more so satisfying, inspirational and useful all of which mean that Jamuary is challenging me as it should and reaches the parts other projects cannot reach. I believe there's something about the totality of a playlist composed over the month that exceeds the merits of any single track wtihin it and I stand by the recommendations I've made to anyone to embrace it and have a go. The graft is incredibly rewarding! :D

I've only tinkered (as I usually do) but the three pieces I've come up with so far have all been based around chord progressions / melody lines that I'd never normally reach for.
I started tinkering with the next one last night and that's also following an unusual (for me) approach.
I think that's one of the nice things about the concept, because I'm not expecting to come up with a 'proper' song, I can play with a few different ideas.

15th: The Parade Of Faded Glory, which started as an experiment in trying to be a bit Martin-esque then went a little in a direction of its own :)

I've also made heavy use of the OB-6 and Summit in this one as I feel I've been a bit too plugin-orientated lately.

I'm glad you like it Martin, thank you. It's another one I think I'll be coming back to next month :)

I don't think I'll get anything done today. I'd love to have the energy but I had to get up early for work and I'm exhausted. An early night beckons but I'll be back at the DAW tomorrow!

OK, my next one is more experimental - 'Lab Report' features three instances of my Mutable Instruments Shruthi monosynth, along with the more normal candidates.

Thx, it's still in the demo stage but each pass refines my concept a bit more.

Well, I thought I'd honour my New Year's Resolution and try to get something finished before the end of the month.

I've had the music kicking around for a while, but never quite completed it. I do the vids so there's access to a track with anyone having to log in anywhere.

But, I'd called the tune "Where Do We Go From Here" way back when I first wrote it, and thought what can go with that? Well watching the news these days. The answer was clear.
